Women's Summit set in Cotabato City




PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, March 6 (PNA) -– At least 250 women from grassroots communities and women’s groups across the proposed Bangsamoro Region and other special guests will attend Friday, March 7, a Women’s Summit in Cotabato City.

The Summit, which coincides with the International Women’s Day celebration, will serve as the venue where the participating groups will be presenting their recommendations to the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.

United Youth of the Philippines-Women (UnYPhil-Women) Executive Director Noraida Abo said they will present a recommendation entitled “A Better Bangsamoro for all: Women’s Contribution to the Bangsamoro Basic Law.”
Abo said the recommendation will be finalized during Friday’s event and will be submitted to members of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC).

Abo said the recommendation was crafted by four women's groups namely UnYPhil-Women, NisaUlHaqq Fi Bangsamoro, Bangsamoro Women’s Action for Development Initiatives (BWADI), and Teduray Lambangian Women’s Organization Incorporated (TLWOI) following the conduct of at least 72 consultations.

She said the consultations were held in Lanao Del Norte, Lanao Del Sur, Maguindanao, Cotabato City, North Cotabato, Zamboanga City, Basilan, Tawi-tawi and Sulu.

She said that among the participants of the consultations are line agency and government employees, students, academe, religious, tribal leaders, politicians, members of royal families, community elders, the business sector, former combatants and members of combatant support units, civil society organizations, grassroots organizations, and urban and rural communities.
