Army’s 1st Infantry Division celebrates 78th founding anniversary

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (May 6, MPF-News) -– The Army’s 1st Infantry Division has lined up a series of activities to commemorate its 78th founding anniversary tomorrow May 7,

1st Infantry Division Public Affairs Officer Capt. Jefferson Mamauag however said the celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 7, instead of Monday, May 5, since they are pre-occupied with other important undertakings of the command.

Mamauag said the commemoration will start with the anniversary parade to be followed by a program at 10 a.m. Wednesday to be held at the Tabak Grandstand at Kuta Major Cesar Sang-an in Pulacan in the nearby town of Labangan.

An Anniversary Night is scheduled in the evening of May 7 at the command’s old parade ground.

Mamauag said the month-long celebration in commemoration of Tabak’s 78th founding anniversary, which was commenced on April 7 until May 7 with the theme: “Kahusayan sa Tungkulin at Disiplina Tungo sa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran” (Excellence in Performance and Discipline towards Peace and Progress). 

He added that last April 7 at 5 a.m. they conducted the Squad Challenge that kick off the celebration that signaling the start of the month-long activities of the command’s anniversary.



Mamauag said the participants of the Squad Challenge are from different battalions under 1st Infantry Division.

He said the competition is aimed at testing the participants’ individual and collective competence as a squad and promote teamwork, leadership and cohesion.

These are some activities conducted during the month-long 78th founding anniversary celebration of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division.

On April 8, 2014 the Division Inter-color sportfest commenced at Division Grandstand where eight teams were participated in different fun games, Basketball, Lawn Tennis and Badminton



Last April 26, 2014, the Tabak Division also informed the public with the Army capabilities especially 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division in “Serving the people, securing the land” thru their photo display activity conducted at Gaisano Mall, Pagadian City.


On May 3, 2014 at 4 a.m. in order to have harmonious relationship with other stakeholders in support to IPSP Bayanihan the Division conducted Fun Run from Plaza Luz to Rotonda in a 3K, 5K and 7K categories to develop camaraderie and cohesion among the soldiers and stakeholders. 

Some 1,000 Tabak troopers, members of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and Philippine National Police (PNP) as well as civilians and other stakeholders joined a fun run.


This activity was followed by Motorcade from Plaza Luz to coastal area of Brgy. Kawit where clean-up drive along coastal area was also conducted simultaneously with the Medical and Dental Outreach Program to the less fortunate people held at Brgy. Diburok, Pagadian City.
