Bayog town celebrates 47th Founding Anniversary

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines (May 9, MPF-News) -- The Local Government of Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur has culminated Thursday May 8 the weeklong celebration of their 47th Founding Anniversary dubbed as the 3rd Palad-Palad Festival.

Mayor Leonardo L. Babasa said Bayog has twenty-eight barangays, grouped in 6 clusters joins the Street Dance competition after the short program yesterday at the municipal quadrangle with Governor Antonio H. Cerilles as the guest of honor and speaker.

On May 7, 2014 the new ambassadresses of beauty and goodwill were crowned during the search for Beauty, Brains & Characters of Bayog:

Miss Bayog Tourism 2014 - Ms. Ma. Searchel Enargan, Miss Bayog Kapayapaan - Ms. Justine Faye Opay, Miss Bayog Kalikasan - Ms. Gretchen May Castro, 1st Runner-up - Ms. Ferlie Joy Ignacio and for 2nd Runner-up - Ms. Katrish Queen Morales.




Mayor Babasa commended and expressed his gratitude to the Barangay Officials and the organizers of the different activities for the successful 47th Founding Anniversary Celebration.

The Mayor also congratulated to the winners of the Street Dancing competition participated by 6 clustered barangays:



The 1st place - Cluster 1 comprising Brgy Poblacion, Bantal, Baking & Dagum; 2nd place - Cluster 4 comprising Bobuan, Canoayan, Deporehan, Pulangbato & Dipili and the 3rd place - Cluster 2 comprising Kahayagan, Conacon, Dimalinao, & Liba and for the Festival Queen was awarded to Cluster 1 (Brgy Kag. Maricel Peduca).

Mayor Babasa said Palad-Palad is a Subanen term for thanksgiving, as local folks acknowledge the countless blessings bestowed by God upon their fertile land. It is also an apparent portrayal of the unity of its tri-people - the Lumads, Christians and Muslims.

The town Mayor said during the celebration yesterday the blessing and inauguration of the ground floor extension of the municipal hall and the Abante Bayog Community Public Address System was also conducted.
  
Bayog was created into a municipality on May 8, 1967 by virtue of RA 4872 authored by then Representative Vincenzo Sagun of the lone district of Zamboanga del Sur.

Bayog is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. According to the latest 2010 census, the municipality has a total population of 30,048 in 5,520 households.
