Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur Municipal Hall

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Aug. 16 (PNA) -- Mayor Nacianceno Pacalioga of the nearby town of Dumingag announced they have managed to contain the spread of dengue cases in his municipality.

Pacalioga said Saturday that it was done through the conduct of house-to-house clean-up drive in the town’s 44 barangays with the participation of the residents and barangay officials.

He said the municipal officials including the vice-mayor and councilors have formed eight teams to conduct weekly inspections in the different barangays to ensure that cleanliness is maintained.

Pacalioga said that government offices including barangay halls and other public structures were also included in the clean-up drive.

He said the number of dengue cases in his town was brought down from 30 in May to three cases last week due to the continuous conduct of clean-up drive.

He said the municipal government is coming up with a competition to ensure that cleanliness is maintained in every household and the community.

He said the winners of the cleanliness competition will be announced and awarded in December of this year.

Meanwhile, Pacalioga is also thankful to the Department of Health (DOH) and the provincial government for the assistance provided to them during the clean-up drive in the different barangays of the town.

The DOH provided the fogging machines that were used as part of the efforts to eliminate mosquitoes that are carriers of dengue. (PNA)
