Zambo Sur Guv led the LGU and Tabak chief led the military in “TreeVolution”

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (Sept. 26, 2014-MPF-News) --- Zamboanga del Sur Governor Antonio H. Cerilles led the LGU while the Army’s premier Infantry (Tabak) Division Chief led his troopers in their participation in the Mindanao-wide tree planting “TreeVolution” Greening MindaNOW” at their respective areas early this morning.

Brigadier General Gerardo Barrientos Jr. of the 1st Tabak division will lead his troopers in Barangay Binayan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur while Governor Cerilles together with the municipal mayors and LGU  from both provincial and municipal government employees planted their trees in barangay Maragang, Tigbao, this province.

The planting duration is one hour started at 8:30 to 9:30 AM simultaneous in the multiple locations in Mindanao targeted to plant 4.6 million of seedlings by 244,44 participants in 9,200 hectares to break the record of India who planted 1,945,535 trees with the same duration at 408 locations across India by 340,200 participants. 

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) identified the planting areas belong to the National Greening Program (NGP) site.

DENR Provincial Environment and Natural Rresources Officer Adelaida Borja said for Zamboanga del Sur a total of 200 hectares at 16 sites were identified for 100-thousand seedling of different tree to be planted including high value trees like Cacao, Coffee, Timber, Mangrove and Fruit trees.

In the 1st District of this province, there are 7 sites identified involving Barangay Lison Valley of Pagadian City and 5 municipalities of Dumingag in barangay Dulop, Barangay Binayan and Cogonan of Labangan, Brgy. Sto. Nino of Sominot, Upper Dimorok of Molave town and Midsalip.

For the 2nd District there are 8 sites planting areas in barangays Conacon and Kahayagan of Bayog town, Brgy Maragang and Limas of Tigbao municipality, Cuatro-cuarto of Dumalinao town, Balong-Balong of Pitogo municipality, and Boyugan East of Kumalarang town

Borja said, she is hopeful that the number of trees planted will be breaking the targeted number based on the calculations of 500 seedlings can be planted in 1 hectare estimated 20 seedlings per participant.

In Zamboanga Sibugay, forestry specialist of DENR-Sibugay Dionisio B. Rago said a total of 35 thousand rubber tree seedlings for upland planting sites and 67,500 mangrove propagules for coastal areas were targeted to be planted.
