Bangsamoro CSOs stage peace caravan in Zamboanga

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Feb. 10 (PNA) -- The Bangsamoro Civil Society Organizations (BCSOs) staged a peace caravan Tuesday calling Congress to approve the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) as scheduled.

The peace caravan was joined by 13 BCSOs headed by the Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society (CBCS) and the Mindanao Alliance for Peace (MAP) in Zamboanga Peninsula.

The 40-vehicle caravan left the nearby municipality of Kumalarang, this province, for the Zamboanga Sibugay province where another convoy of vehicles coming from Zamboanga del Norte is scheduled to join them en route to Zamboanga City.

Professor Abussawan Salipada, MAP chairman for Zamboanga Peninsula, said Tuesday that the passage of the proposed BBL is the ultimate solution to the conflict here in Mindanao.

Salipada said the January 25 incident that resulted to the death of 44 Special Action Force (SDAF) policemen should not be made as an obstacle to the passage of the proposed BBL.

He added that the incident should be left to the investigating body to conduct a probe and to file charges against those responsible to the killing of the 44 SAF policemen.

He added that all-out war is not the solution to the conflict here in Mindanao.
“We cannot solve the problem by creating another problem,” he said.

As planned, Salipada said the caravan will return to their respective places of origin upon arriving in Zamboanga City.

However, Salipada said they were not able to proceed to Zamboanga City as combined military and police forces stopped them in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay around 10 a.m. after they failed to present permit to hold the caravan.

It was learned from Salipada that the caravan returned to their respective places of origin from Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. (PNA)
