Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur (CNN Philippines) — The Vicente A. Sagun Municipal Police Station filed complaints on Monday (August 24) against four men accused of being involved in sea piracy.

Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, chief of the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police Provincial Office, identified the four suspects as Joveto Galorio, Bobby Jerusalem, Joel Langgam, and Fredo Sapas Oclaret — all residents of Barangay Igat Island in Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur.

Ecaldre said they were arrested on the afternoon of August 21 after an encounter with police who were conducting a seaborne patrol along the municipal waters off Barangay Biu-Os.

The encounter lasted 5 minutes which resulted in the death of their companion, identified as Junjie Isbot Galorio, who was also from Barangay Igat Island.

Ecaldre said that the suspects were believed to be responsible in piracy in the Dumanguilas Bay area.

The police were able to recover one M1 rifle, three magazines with 22 rounds of ammunition.

The suspects are now detained at municipal police station.
