Pagadian
City, Zamboanga del Sur (CNN Philippines) — The Vicente A. Sagun Municipal
Police Station filed complaints on Monday (August 24) against four men accused
of being involved in sea piracy.
Senior
Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, chief of the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police Provincial
Office, identified the four suspects as Joveto Galorio, Bobby Jerusalem, Joel
Langgam, and Fredo Sapas Oclaret — all residents of Barangay Igat Island in
Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur.
Ecaldre
said they were arrested on the afternoon of August 21 after an encounter with
police who were conducting a seaborne patrol along the municipal waters off
Barangay Biu-Os.
The
encounter lasted 5 minutes which resulted in the death of their companion,
identified as Junjie Isbot Galorio, who was also from Barangay Igat Island.
Ecaldre
said that the suspects were believed to be responsible in piracy in the
Dumanguilas Bay area.
The
police were able to recover one M1 rifle, three magazines with 22 rounds of
ammunition.
The
suspects are now detained at municipal police station.
