ZAMBOANGA CITY, April 29 (PNA) -- The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has found several violations committed by the transport company that owns the bus involved in Sunday’s accident in Zamboanga del Sur that killed six people and injured 16 others.

LTFRB Regional Director Abdulgafar Mohammad disclosed in an interview Tuesday that the bus involved in the accident does not have a franchise and official receipt (OR) as well as certificate of registration (CR).

The bus is owned by the Rural Transit Management, Incorporated (RTMI) that owns and operates fleet of buses plying in the region up to Region IX.

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, April 29 (PNA) –- Criminal charges have been filed before the prosecutor’s office against the driver of the bus which figured in an accident on Sunday that killed six people and injured 16 others in nearby Aurora town, a top police official announced Tuesday.

Provincial police director Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre said the charges were filed Monday by the police of Aurora town against Biato Dumpa of the Rural Transit Management, Incorporated (RTMI).

Ecaldre said the charges filed against Dumpa include reckless driving resulting in multiple homicide and multiple serious physical injuries.

PAGADIAN CITY, ZAMBO DEL SUR (April 28, MPF NEWS) – Six bus passengers were dead while 16 others were wounded and brought to thye nearby hospital after a passenger bus owned by Rural Transit of Mindanao Incorporated (RTMI) based at Bulua, Cagayan De Oro City turn left side down upon reaching the blind curve at about 12:noon Sunday in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur near the boundary of Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte.

Sofronio Ecaldre said in the initial investigation, the Rural Bus with body number with body no 1269, plate no KWV 252 driven by Biato Dumpa Y Colance, a resident of Barangay Dulong, Libertad, Misamis Oriental travelling from Pagadian City bound for Cagayan De Oro City and upon reaching at curve along the national highway of Purok 1, Barangay Anonang, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur the driver lost control of his driven vehicle and turn left side down.

According to IPs Association Vice President Timuay Langhap Carlito Dalangon in an interview Sunday, the petition was filed on August 5, 2013 requesting the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the DENR for the cancellation of all mining applications, existing mining operations with approved MGB Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) within the Ancestral Domain area without Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).

DTI sets modern rubber production investment opportunity seminar

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, March 10 (PNA) -– The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in coordination with the Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprises Development (BSMED) is conducting a two-day seminar for prospective investors who would like to venture into modern rubber production.

DTI Regional Officer-in-Charge Sitti Amina Jain said the seminar, which is scheduled Tuesday until Wednesday, is aimed at providing information on investment opportunities in rubber industry and impart modern knowledge on rubber farm management techniques.

The seminar will be held at Case Mea Hotel in the municipality of Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Troops nab 2 kidnapping suspects in Zambo Sibugay

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, March 10 (PNA) -- Two alleged kidnap-for-ransom-group (KFRG) members were arrested in a raid at a safe house over the weekend by combined military and policemen in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.

Army’s 1st Infantry Division information officer Captain Jefferson Mamauag identified the arrested suspects as Hajer Dunggan and Alvin Prontosa, both alleged followers of KFRG leader Mamay Aburi.

Mamauag said the suspects were arrested at their safe house in Barangay Tenan, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur – The rotational brownouts for Pagadian City and the entire province of Zamboanga del Sur were lifted on Friday, March 7, following return to normal operations of generation plants that supply the load needed by the Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperative-1 (Zamsureco-1).

"The electric cooperative is very much happy to inform the electric consuming public that the power load of 34 megawatts needed for Zamboanga del Sur were already available as of today after the normalization operations of power generation and National Grid Corporation of the Philippines," Liberal Cabatcha, information officer of Zamsureco-1, said.

Zamsurec-1 gets its supply from three sources: 5 mega watts from Mapalad Power Corp., 5 megawatts from Terma Marine Inc, and 24 megawatts from National Power Corp. (NPC), Cabatcha said.

Earlier, the electric cooperative announced that it had been losing P1 million daily because of three brownouts a day lasting a total of six hours.

The return to normal power generation, however, would not mean a return to normal rates, because the independent power producers charge higher rates, Cabatcha said.

Zamsureco-1 lifts 6-hour rotational blackout

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, March 9 (PNA) -- The Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperative-1 (Zamsureco-1) has lifted Friday the implementation of the six-hour rotational blackout daily here.

Zamsureco-1 information officer Liberal Cabatcha made the announcement Friday citing the cooperative is now receiving a complete supply of power from its suppliers.

“The electric cooperative is very happy to inform the electric consuming public that the power load of 34 megawatts (MW) needed for Zamboanga del Sur are already available as of today after the normalization of operations of the power generation and of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines,” Cabatcha said.

Mindanao IPs ask recognition, respect from Bangsamoro Framework Agreement

COTABATO CITY, March 8 (PNA) -- Tribal peoples in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) are asking for recognition and respect of their rights and distinct identity from the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) of the Bangsamoro Framework Agreement.

This after more than 200 indigenous peoples community leaders in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat gathered in Upi, Maguindanao Friday for consultations conducted by BTC.

The government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) are expected to sign within the month the Comprehensive Agreement that will hopefully end the decades-old Mindanao Moro issue and attain genuine peace on the island.

Zambo Sur police denies reported release of abducted vice-mayor in Pagadian City

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, March 6 (PNA) -– The police have denied that the abducted vice-mayor of Hadji Muhtammad, Basilan was freed in this city.

Provincial police director Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre said Thursday that he ordered his personnel to check the veracity of the report “but it turn out negative.”

Ecaldre issued the statement after it was reported that Vice-Mayor Arsina Nanoh of Hadji Muhtammad, Basilan was released in this city.

“Early this morning I was surprised after series of phone calls of reporters from different outfit asking me about developments in the released of kidnapped victim in Pagadiqan City,” Ecaldre said.

However, Ecaldre said they are continuously monitoring the veracity of the report.

Zambo police track down whereabouts of abducted Basilan town vice mayor

ZAMBOANGA CITY, March 5 (PNA) -- Authorities are continuously exerting efforts in a bid to track down the whereabouts of a Basilan town vice-mayor abducted by unidentified persons at a shopping mall in this city.

Arsina Nanoh, 20, the vice-mayor of Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan province, was abducted by unidentified persons shortly after noon time Tuesday at a shopping mall along La Purisima Street in downtown Zamboanga City.

Police Station 11 commander Supt. Diomarie Albarico said they were informed by the victim’s husband, Alnajil, the suspects have allowed his wife to call them around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Women's Summit set in Cotabato City

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, March 6 (PNA) -– At least 250 women from grassroots communities and women’s groups across the proposed Bangsamoro Region and other special guests will attend Friday, March 7, a Women’s Summit in Cotabato City.

The Summit, which coincides with the International Women’s Day celebration, will serve as the venue where the participating groups will be presenting their recommendations to the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.

United Youth of the Philippines-Women (UnYPhil-Women) Executive Director Noraida Abo said they will present a recommendation entitled “A Better Bangsamoro for all: Women’s Contribution to the Bangsamoro Basic Law.”

Abo said the recommendation will be finalized during Friday’s event and will be submitted to members of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC).

Pagadian police arrest 3 suspected criminals after shootout

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, March 6 (PNA) -– The police have captured three wanted persons following a brief shootout in an outskirt barangay in this city, a police official announced Thursday.

Supt. Glenn Dulawan, local police chief, said the shootout ensued around 5 p.m. Wednesday in Barangay Lison Valley, this city, when the suspects opened fire upon seeing the arriving policemen backed by militiamen.

Dulawan identified them as Armando Bantayan of Lison Valley, this city, Armon Salibulan and Polito Salibulan, both residents of Midsalip town.

Dulawan said the suspects are facing murder and homicide charges before a local Court and corresponding warrants of arrest were issued against them.

He said confiscated from the suspects’ possession were a homemade shotgun, an M-14 rifle, and an air gun with ammunition.

He said the suspects were detained at the local police headquarters. (PNA)

DENR-Zambo Peninsula targets to plant 24,416 trees

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, March 5 (PNA) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through the National Greening Program (NGP) is set to plant 24,416 trees this year here in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

DENR’s Forest Management Services Regional Technical Director Carlito Tuballa said Wednesday that they originally targeted to plant 19,159 trees but it was increased to 24,416 trees in line with this year’s concept of the NGP to alleviate the livelihood of the farmers by incorporating into the program the planting of high-value crops (HVC).

Tuballa said they will incorporate the planting of 5,257 HVCs such as rubber and fruit trees, bamboo and mangrove. It will be planted by selected partner community-based farmers’ organizations.

Tuballa said the 24,416 assorted species of trees including those classified as HVC will be planted in four areas as follows: Zamboanga del Norte, 10,273 trees; Zamboanga del Sur, 4,651; Zamboanga Sibugay, 4,544; and, Zamboanga City, 4,948.

He said they will closely monitor the growth of the trees to ensure zero damage or mortality, citing any damaged trees will be immediately replaced with new ones.

He said this year’s number of trees to be planted in the region will be higher by 3,418 compared to the 20,998 trees grown last year. (PNA)

Zambo Norte to buy new equipment to boost infra projects implementation

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, March 4 (PNA) -– The provincial government of Zamboanga del Norte is set to purchase 25 new heavy equipment worth P61.3 million to boost the implementation of infrastructure projects in the province.

Zamboanga del Norte Vice Governor Senen Angeles said the funds that will be used to purchase the heavy equipment came from the P91.3 million appropriations under the 2014 General Supplemental Budget No. 1 of the province government.

Angeles said the allocation of the P61.3 million for the purchase of the heavy equipment was recently approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
