ASG member killed in an enounter in Basilan

 PAGADIAN CITY(Oct. 31, 2020) – A Abu Sayyaf Group member, was killed during a short encounter with the government forces in Basilan on Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2020, military official disclosed. 

Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. identified the said fatality as a.k.a. Botak.

Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. disclosed that a five-minute firefight with three ASG members broke around 4:00 this afternoon in Barangay Felang, Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan Province which resulted in the death of a.k.a. Botak, a known follower of ASG Sub-Leader Furuji Indama who was also killed during the encounter with the troops of 44IB last September 2020. 

“The neutralized personality was onboard a motorcycle along with two of his comrades when they were intercepted by the operating troops of the 101st Infantry Brigade and the 18th Infantry Battalion, and the firefight ensued,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

According to Joint Task Force Basilan Commander Col. Domingo Gobway, the

troops were able to recover the dead body of a.k.a. Botak, one M60 machine gun, and one motorcycle at the clash site. Col Gobway further stated that "our operating troops continue to scour the area to arrest the companions of a.k.a. Botak."

Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. said that the military desires to end local armed conflicts in a peaceful way, nevertheless; he vows to sustain the military offensives against those who remain resistant. (By JONG CADION with PR from PIO WesMinCom)

10 BIFF members yield anew in Maguindanao

PAGADIAN CITY(Oct. 31, 2020) – Ten more members of the Bangsamo Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) operating in central Mindanao submitted themselves to the military in Sultan Sa Barongis, Maguindanao on October 28, WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. stated.

Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. said, “The report from the ground revealed that at around 5:30 in the afternoon yesterday, the BIFF members identified as Narix Saligan, Ting Dadin, Kamarudin Maguid, Mosanip Maguid, Nana Makalimpas, Walid Milikano, Allan Bagel, Macky Sandigan, Basti Usman and Datukan Palaguyan turned themselves in due to the efforts of the 33rd Infantry Battalion.”

“I would like to commend this laudable accomplishment of the Joint Task Force Central under Maj. Gen. Juvy Max Uy particularly the  33IB troopers led by Lt. Col. Elmer Boongaling. You did a marvelous job,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. expressed.

“Being the commander of the Western Mindanao Command, it is but more fulfilling to win our campaign here in Mindanao in peaceful way, without even a single bullet fired,” he added.

The surrendered personalities brought along with them three rifles including one M14, one M16A1, and one M79; two rocket-propelled grenades; one Barret; one Tomb Gram; one 12 Gauge Shotgun; one Caliber 45; one Caliber 38; one Rifle Grenade; one Hand Grenade; and one Improvised Explosive Device.

The ten and their surrendered firearms are still in the custody of the 33IB for documentation.

“They will subsequently be presented to JTF Central Commander Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy and SSB Mayor Mamatanto Mamantal,” said Lt. Col. Boongaling.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Roy Galido, the commander of the 601st Infantry Brigade said that the successful operations and the substantial gains of the units under his direct supervision are attributed to the local government units and the communities who unwaveringly support the military in all of its endeavors.

“Elusive peace will be attained if we will continue to harmoniously work for it,” Brig. Gen. Galido added.

Further, Maj. Gen. Uy said that those who intend to return to mainstream society are very much welcome.

DI-MG member yields in Lanao del Sur


 
PAGADIAN CITY(Oct. 31, 2020) – A member of the Dawlah Islamiya Maute Group voluntary surrendered to the troops of the 82nd Infantry Battalion at 10 a.m. on October 29, 2020, this was based in the report submitted by the JTF ZamPeLan to WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr.

Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr identified Maute Group member as Samad Macaampon Ali, a.k.a. Abu Samad, 40 years old, and a resident of Barangay Gacap, Piagapo, Lanao del Sur. He was received by Lt. Col. Raman Altre, the Commanding Officer of the 82 IB at the Tactical Command Post located on the same barangay,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. said.

Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. also disclosed that the said personality handed over his M79 grenade launcher.

“Accordingly, Samad decided to come out after being on lie-low status since he left the group sometime in 2017 because he wants to be with his family, live a peaceful life, and be a productive citizen of this country,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. added.

“Rest assured that we will provide all sorts of assistance as he reintegrates into the mainstream society,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. ensured.

Samad was a known DI-MG member under a.k.a. Abu Sierra, a sub-leader of the Omar Maute Group.

“Through the implementation of our Community Support Programs, we gained the trust and support of the people including the relatives of the DI-MG remnants,” said Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo, the Commander of the 103rd Infantry Brigade.

“Samad revealed that one of the factors that convinced him to surrender is his family. They are made aware that the government assists all those who lay down their arms and return to the fold of the law,” Col. Cuerpo added 

The surrendered personality was brought to the 82IB headquarters in Barangay Pawak, Saguiaran, the same province for custodial debriefing and proper disposition.

“This success is a result of the combined efforts of the 82IB troopers, the intelligence operatives, the local government units, and the people of Lanao del Sur,” said Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, JTF ZamPeLan Commander.

PAGADIAN CITY (Oct. 29, 2020) - The intensified military operations in Maguindanao led to the surrender of nine Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) members on Saturday morning, October 24.

WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said that a report from the ground revealed that the following personalities submitted themselves to the 57th Infantry Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Jonathan Pondanera: Rahib Baguindali Nawal, a.k.a. Rahib, a Field Commander; Abdulrahim Kinona Mariano, a.k.a. Junior, an IED Maker; Zed Baguindali Nawal, a.k.a.Jerome; Mamalinta Em Abdul, a.k.a. Alvin; Kasim Mujahid Abdul, a.k.a. Bots; Abdul Rafael Kanda, a.k.a.Pai; Jessie Abunawas Abdul, a.k.a. At; Surab Abdullah, a.k.a. Bhods; and Mentato Mesol, a.k.a. Palangan.

“The said personalities handed over high-powered firearms including one M4A1 Carbine Cal. 5.56mm, one Bushmaster Cal 5.56mm, one Heckler and Koch 416 Cal. 5.56mm, one Elisco M16 A1, one M14 rifle Cal. 7.56mm, two Homemade Cal. 50 Sniper rifles, and two Homemade RPGs with two ammunition,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. added.

Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. further said that the surrendered personalities participated in the series of armed engagements in Barangay Salman, Ampatuan, Maguindanao in March 2020. However, due to the continuous combat operations by the government forces, they were tired and nothing to eat.

Likewise, said group participated in different harassments and armed encounters in the area of Maguindanao and North Cotabato.

The nine were presented to JTF Central Commander Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy and 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Jesus Rico Atencio during the 33rd Founding Anniversary Celebration of the 6th Infantry Division at the unit’s headquarters in Camp Siongco, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao on the same day.

ASG war materials seized following an encounter in Sulu

PAGADIAN CITY (Oct. 29, 2020) - Military troops seized ASG war materials following an encounter in Sulu on October 28, 2020.

Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr. said that “report received from Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, Commander of the Joint Task Force Sulu, stated that while our troops of the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion led by Lt. Col Herbert Dilag were conducting clearing operations in Barangay Adjid, Indanan, Sulu, they encountered more or less 15 local terrorists’ Abu Sayyaf Group members under bomber Mundi Sawadjaan and Senior Leader Radulan Sahiron at around 4 p.m. which lasted for about 20 minutes, and thereafter, the local terrorists withdrew to different directions.”

Lt. Gen. Vinluan further stated that “while scouring the area, the operating troops recovered two (2) M14 rifles, three (3) hammocks, two (2) pairs combat boots, two (2) backpacks and other belongings. Our troops also recovered documents including photocopies of passports owned by two (2) Indonesian nationals whose identities are yet to be identified. The recovered documents of high intelligence value will undergo thorough investigation to extract information that would strengthen our campaign in eliminating the local and foreign terrorists.”

“The ASG also suffered undetermined casualties as evident on the bloodstains in the encounter site. I am happy to report that there is no casualty on the government side,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan added.

“We immediately deployed supplemental troops to establish blockades in the possible withdrawal route of the local terrorists. A hot pursuit operation is currently being conducted to neutralize the fleeing local terrorists,” said Col. Antonio Bautista, 1101st Infantry Brigade Commander.

Maj. Gen. William Gonzales commended the troops of the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion for the unrelenting efforts to eradicate the menace of society. He also acknowledged the unwavering support of the local government units and the peace-loving people of Sulu. "Our troops are currently pursuing these terrorists. We have the manpower, we have the war assets, and we have the people of Sulu rallying behind us. They give tip-offs and they forbid ASG presence in their communities. The Tausugs are very confident and they are not afraid as they themselves are volunteering to confront terrorists," MGen Gonzales added. Maj. Gen. Gonzales urged the local terrorists to lay down their arms and to return to the fold of the law to live normalcy and to unite with the government for peace and progress rather than to pursue in vain.

 Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. lauded the Joint Task Force Sulu troopers for the numerous accomplishments and urged them to sustain the momentum in defeating the remaining local terrorists in the province of Sulu. (By JONG CADION with WesMinCom PR)

Arms cache tipped by former communist terrorists recovered

 

PAGADIAN CITY (Oct. 28, 2020) - The Operating troops from the 44th Infantry Battalion recovered an arms cache in Sitio Palos, Barangay Santo Niño, Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte on October 28, 2020 early morning.

According to the Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., a report received from 102nd Infantry Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas stated that a section from the Headquarters Service Company of the 44IB was conducting combat operation when they discovered an arms cache of the Guerilla Front Flex-A, Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee revealed by former high-ranking communist terrorists.

“Recovered from the said arms cache were high-powered firearms including five M16 and one Caliber .30 M1 Carbine rifles, one long magazine of Carbine rifle with 26 rounds of live ammunition of Caliber .30, one Nokia cellular phone, two bandoliers, CTG flag, medical and dental equipment, and assorted medicines,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. related.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Nicolas lauded the troops of the 44IB led by Lt. Col. Don Templonuevo for the successful operation.

Likewise, JTF ZamPeLan Commander Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio said that the military gained the trust and support of the former rebels through the implementation of the livelihood programs of the government. 

Moreover, Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. stated, “This accomplishment is also attributable to the intensified operations of the military intelligence units under the command and control of the Western Mindanao Command.”

Lawless personality apprehend by Joint AFP-PNP operatives in Zambo City

PAGADIAN CITY (Oct. 28, 2020) – The Combined elements of the AFP and PNP successfully apprehended a criminal group member during the conducted law enforcement operation along the shoreline of Barangay Arena Blanco in Zamboanga City in the afternoon of October 27, 2020.

WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., identified the arrested personality as Anerson Manambahi Tungayao, a.k.a. Ganison, a criminal group member who is also affiliated with the Sulu-based local terrorist group,” said WestMinCom Commander.

Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. added that the operating troops recovered from a.k.a. Ganison’s possession one M16 rifle and one short magazine loaded with ammunition.

“A.k.a. Ganison is a resident of Barangay Tapanayan, Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte, and was positively identified by Rex Triplitt as one of his abductors,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. also said.

The arrested personality was brought to the headquarters of the Anti-Kidnapping Group-9 in Camp Batalla, Barangay Cawa-Cawa, the same city for filing of appropriate charges.

“His link to the local terrorist group was attested by his participation in the kidnapping of KV Rex Triplitt in Sirawai on September 16, 2020, along with the Sulu-based LTG led by Injam Yadah,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. uttered.

“Our troops, in close collaboration with and support from our counterparts, sustain the law enforcement efforts targeting the lawless elements here in Mindanao,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. concluded. (By JONG D. CADION with PR from WestMinCom)
