Government troops overrun NPA camp in Zamboanga del Sur

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, July 29 (PNA) -– The government forces have overrun a camp of the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in the hinterlands of Zamboanga del Sur, a military official disclosed Tuesday.

Army’s 1st Infantry Division Public Affairs Officer-in-Charge Capt. Franco Suelto said the troops overran the camp following a 30-minute firefight that broke out around 3 p.m. Monday in Sitio Kamanse, Barangay New Tuburan, Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur.

PMA sets nationwide entrance examination

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, July 29 (PNA) -- The Philippine Military Academy (PMA), the country’s premier military school, is set to hold its annual entrance examination in the different parts of the country, a military official said Tuesday.

Army’s 1st Infantry Division Public Affairs Officer-in-Charge Capt. Franco Suelto said the entrance examination is scheduled to be held on Sunday, August 3.

Suelto said there are three designated testing centers within the area of jurisdiction of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division.

These are in the following areas: Iligan National High School, Iligan City; Congressman Hilarion Ramiro, Jr. Gymnasium, Ozamis City, Misamis Occidental; and; Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) headquarters, Upper Calarian, Zamboanga City.

President Aquino’s impeachment a great loss to the Filipinos -- Gov. Hataman

ZAMBOANGA CITY, July 29 (PNA) -- Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Gov. Mujiv Hataman said Tuesday the Filipinos will suffer a great lose if and when President Benigno Simeon Aquino, III will be impeached.

This was the reaction of Hataman to the impeachment complaints filed against President Aquino citing the country will lose a good leader.

In citing him as a good leader, Hataman added that President Aquino does not tolerate the wrongs committed even by his allies and supporters.

POPCOM declares a Zamboanga baby boy as 100 millionth baby

ZAMBOANGA CITY, July 29 (PNA) -- The Commission on Population (POPCOM) has announced that a baby boy, whose mother is from Barangay Putik, an east coast barangay 4.65 kilometers from City Hall, is the 100 millionth baby in this city.

POPCOM Regional Information Officer Cecil Abuy said Tuesday the baby boy was born around 1:11 a.m. Sunday at a government hospital in this city.

The search for the 100 millionth baby has been held as the Philippines welcomed on Sunday its 100-million citizen.

According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), the Philippines is the 12 most populous country in the world.

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, July 26 (PNA) -- Joint military and police forces are tracking down the whereabouts of a nine-year-old girl seized by five gunmen believed to be members of a kidnap-for-ransom-group (KFRG) in the nearby province of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Army’s 1st Infantry Division public affairs officer-in-charge Capt. Franco Suelto identified the victim as Princess Jewel Mariel Nique.

Suelto said Nique is the daughter of James Nique, Jr., one of the known businessmen in Oluntanga town.

Suelto said the victim was seized around 4:20 p.m. Friday in Barangay Solar, Olutanga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

 DAPITAN CITY, Zamboanga del Norte, July 25 (PNA) -– Raquel Lea Jade Trozzi, a nursing student representing the Dapitan City Water District, has been crowned as Miss Dapitan City 2014.

The Miss Dapitan City 2014 beauty pageant is one of the activities of this year’s “Kinabayo Festival” that will culminate Friday, July 25, the feast day of St. James The Greater, the patron saint of this city.

Trozzi was also named as Miss Congeniality during the coronation Wednesday night held here.

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, July 23 (PNA) -– The provincial government here is making the necessary preparations for the celebration of its 62nd founding anniversary in September this year.

Provincial Information Officer Marivic Jongco said Wednesday the different activities that will be lined up for the anniversary will kick-off on September 10. The province's founding anniversary is September 17.

Jongco said this year’s founding anniversary is themed: “2014: Malahutayong Programa, Gipaluyuhan sa Katawhan, Kalambuan sa Lalawigan (Sustainable program, Supported by the people, Development of the province).”

Julia celebrates her 7th Bday with indigents and special children

DAPITAN CITY, Zamboanga del Norte (July 24, 2014-MPF News) --- At least more than 1000 indigents and some special children coming from 51 barangays in Dapitan City benefited the gift from the youngest daughter of former congressman Romeo “Nonong” Jalosjos following her 7^th Birthday celebration Wednesday August 23, 2014. 

Most of the children were first timers to enjoy the free rides at the Fantasyland had expressed their gratitude to Julia for inviting them.

The birthday party was held at the Gloria de Dapitan Fantasyland the whole rides to all amenities followed by a simple program and distribution of tokens to the children.

The children were also entertained by the Magicians, clowns and other performers from the Fantasyland.

“It is a wish of my youngest daughter Julia Robert Mona Jalosjos to celebrate her 7^th year Birthday with indigents and some special children and shared with them some tokens,” Nonong Jalosjos said.

The Birthday party was also attended by her auntie Rosalina Jalosjos, the City Mayor of Dapitan and other city officials.

Julia is grade 2 pupil and the youngest among the 3 daughters of R Jalosjos who always wanted to extend some help to the poor children.
