PAGADIAN
CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Aug. 25 (PNA) – Police have filed criminal charges
against four suspected pirates they recently captured following a brief
firefight off the shores of Vincenzo Sagun town, this province.
Sr.
Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, provincial police director, told the Philippines News
Agency that among the charges they filed against the arrested suspects included
illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and direct assault to an agent of
the law.
Ecaldre
identified the suspects as Joveto Galorio; Bobby Jerusalem; Joel Langgam; and,
Fredo Oclaret, all residents of Igat Island in nearby Margosatubig town.
Ecaldre
said the suspects were captured following a five-minute firefight with
policemen around 3 p.m. Friday near the shore of Barangay Biu-Os, Vincenzo
Sagun town.
He said
Junjie Isbot, a companion of the suspects, was killed during the firefight that
ensued when the patrolling policemen chanced upon them.
He said
the group of the suspects was believed to be behind the piracy incidents within
the Dumanguilas Bay area.
He said
the patrolling policemen confiscated from the suspects’ possessions a Garand
rifle with 22 rounds of ammunition.
He said
the suspects were detained at the lock-up cell of the Vincenzo Sagun Municipal
