2 communist terrorists yield in Sarangani

PAGADIAN CITY (March 19, 2021) - Two members of the Communist Terrorist Group’s Guerilla Front 73, Far South Mindanao Region surrendered to the government forces on Monday, March 15, 2021.

“The surrender of the two came after the joint focused operation of the 38th Infantry Battalion, the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, and Maasim Municipal Police Station in Barangay Nomoh, Maasim, Sarangani Province,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander of the Western Mindanao Command.

The duo handed over one shotgun with three live ammunition and one cal. 45 pistol. The said firearms are placed under the custody of Maasim MPS for documentation and proper disposition.

Lt. Col. Anhouvic Atilano, Commanding Officer of the 38IB said the two turned to the government to have a quiet and peaceful life away from the chaotic life under the terrorist group.

“Our situation got worse when we joined the communist movement. We now denounce the wrongdoings of the group,” the duo said in their native tongue.

Col. Eduardo Gubat commended the operating troops and the Community Support Program Teams for their concerted efforts that led to the successful surrender of the two personalities.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, Commander of the Joint Task Force Central said that most of the CTG members are already tired of the lies and false ideologies of their leaders.

“The former rebels, most of whom are now enrolled in the reintegration program of the government, vowed support to our campaign and gave their trust to the government because they believe they will have better days from now on,” said Maj. Gen. Uy.

From January 2021 to date, a total of 14 CTG members surrendered to the government forces in western, southern, and central Mindanao.

“We attribute this success to our partners, stakeholders, and most especially the peace-loving people of Mindanao,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

“I urge everyone to join us in our journey towards the attainment of lasting peace, progress, and development here in the south,” he added. (By JONG CADION with reports and photos from WestMinCom-PIO)
