2 more loose firearms surrendered by local officials in Tawi-Tawi

 PAGADIAN CITY (March 4, 2021) - The marine troops received two more loose firearms from local officials in Bongao town, Tawi-Tawi on March 2, 2021.

“Two local officials of barangay Lakit-Lakit in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi personally handed over one M79 and one M1 Garand Springfield rifles,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander of the Western Mindanao Command.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local officials of Tawi-Tawi for giving your 100% support to the Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi in all of its endeavors and most especially in the campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. stated.

Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. likewise commended the marine troopers for their efforts in pursuing lasting peace in the province of Tawi-Tawi.

The said loose firearms were handed over to Lt. Col. Henry Espinosa, Commanding Officer of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-12.

In a short statement, Lt. Col. Espinosa recognized the 512th Marine Company for facilitating most of the turn-over of loose firearms in the province.

“The MBLT-12 in coordination with the local government units continuously conduct security forums/dialogues to the civilian communities to educate them on the RA 10591, the act providing for a comprehensive law on firearms and ammunition,” said Lt. Col. Espinosa.

Meanwhile, the local officials thanked the marine troops for their resolve to sustain the peace in the community.

“As our gesture of support, we are handing over our firearms to you. We know that through this, our constituents would feel more secure and safe in their daily activities,” the local officials said.

The turned-over firearms are placed under the custody of the 512MC at Sitio Boloboc, Barangay Lakit-Lakit, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi for safekeeping.

Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, Commander of the Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi said the success of the campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms marks the end of terrorism and criminalities in Tawi-Tawi.

“I urge the people of Tawi-Tawi to be more involved in our active and holistic measures for peace not only for ourselves but for the future generations,” Brig. Gen. Rojas stated.

For this year, Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi received a total of 22 undocumented firearms from the communities. (By JONG CADION with reports and photos from WesMinCom-PIO)
