Military transports COVID-19 vaccines to Mindanao island provinces

PAGADIAN CITY (April 13, 2021) - Philippine Air Force personnel from the Tactical Operations Command and Tactical Operations Wing-Western Mindanao facilitated the safe transport of the vaccines to the island provinces on Monday, April 12.

“We want to make sure that the vaccines are delivered on time so that their optimum efficacy is sustained up until the inoculation,” said Col. Dennis Estrella, Commander of the TOWWM.

The new batch of COVID-19 vaccines was picked up at the Ministry of Health of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, and was delivered to the island provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

The thousands of vials of Sinovac vaccines were successfully turned over to the respective health officers of the three provinces.

The active participation of the Western Mindanao Command in the “Bakunation” program of the government began on day-1 of the distribution of the vaccines to the provinces under its area of responsibility.

Significantly, the Western Mindanao Command through the Naval Forces Western Mindanao and Tactical Operations Wing-Western Mindanao successfully transported 208 doses of AstraZeneca and 2,360 of Sinovac vaccines to Sulu and 101 doses of AstraZeneca and 1, 212 of Sinovac vaccines to Tawi-Tawi on March 11, and hundreds of Sinovac and Astrazeneca vaccines to Mapun Island on March 24 that benefitted more or less 200 healthcare workers of the municipalities of Mapun and Turtle Islands in Tawi-Tawi.





“We will continue to aid in the transport of the vaccines, utilizing our air, naval, and ground assets, especially to the far-flung municipalities and provinces,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
