DILG appoints ZamboNorte governor as new RPOC-9 chairman

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, June 6 (PNA) – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has appointed Zamboanga del Norte Gov. Roberto Uy as the new chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council-9 (RPOC-9), a DILG official announced Friday.

DILG Regional director Paisal Abutazil said Uy's appointment was personally handed over to the governor by DILG secretary Manuel Roxas, II, who visited the province as the guest speaker of this year’s week-long “Saulog Festival” in line with the 62nd Founding Anniversary celebration of Zamboanga del Norte.

The week-long festival culminated Friday, June 6, the 62nd Foundation Day of Zamboanga del Norte.

Abutazil said Roxas has the authority as National Peace and Order Council chairman to appoint RPOC chairperson pursuant to the provisions of Executive Order No.773, series of 2009.

Abutazil said the RPOC chairman shall appoint the three private sector representatives upon consultation with the Council members and upon acquiring the appropriate security clearances.

The RPOC duties and functions include include the following: to provide a forum for dialogue and deliberation of major issues and problems affecting peace and order including insurgency; recommend measures which will improve or enhance peace and order and public safety in their respective areas of responsibility including anti-insurgency measures; recommend measures to converge and orchestrate internal security operations efforts of civil authorities and agencies, military and police.
