Fire incident property damage in Pagadian City decreases to 82 percent in 2014

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (Jan.3, 2015-MPF News) --- Fire incident property damage had decreased to almost 82 percent  in 2014 compared to 2013 based on the comparative fire incident reports from the Pagadian City Bureau of Fire Protection.

Pagadian City Fire Marshall Sr. Insp. Reggy Olmedo said Saturday the fire damage decreased to Php5,112,200.00 from Php28,099,050.00 or 82 percent involving a total of 73 structures burned in 28 fire incidents compared to that of the previous year with 76 structures burned in 34 fire incidents or a reduction of 17.66 percent

Olmedo explained that of the 28 total fire incidents, 20 are residential, 1 industrial/factory, 2 storage, 2 business/government establishments, 1 institutional, 1 grass fire and 1 electrical post compared to the 34 fire incidents of 2013, of which 24 are residential, 1 industrial/factory, 3 storage, 2 business/government establishments, 1 market, 1 grass fire and 2 educational burned within the area of jurisdiction of the Pagadian City Fire Station.

Olmedo said aside from this city, the Pagadian City Fire Station covers the seven nearby municipalities of this province that do not have firefighting equipment. This province has a total of 26 municipalities.

The seven municipalities are: Dumalinao, Guipos, Kumalarang, Labangan, Lakewood, San Pablo, and Tigbao, Olmedo said.

Of the total fire incidents in 2014, 2 motor vehicles were involved, 2 were classified as arson, 25 were accidental and 3 under investigation compared to 2013 involving 1 motor vehicle, 2 classified as arson, 30 were residential and 3 under investigation, Olmedo added.

Fatalities during fire incidents were 2 civilians in 2014 and 1 in 2013, while 1 was injured among the firefighters in 2014 and 3 civilians in 2013, he said.

In 2014 the City Fire Station was able to establish 3 Fire sub-stations in Barangay Danlugan, Tiguma and Santiago as part of their expansion program.

Barangay Danlugan Fire sub-station is located at least 8 kilometers north from the city proper that will cover 15 upper barangays while Santiago fire sub-station will cater to 8 coastal barangays. Barangay Tiguma will also take care of the west portion of the city covering 8 barangays including the municipalities of Labangan and Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur. 

Olmedo said Pagadian City Fire Station needed 5 additional fire trucks based on the ratio of one fire truck in every 20 thousand population.
