Senate Committee leads IEC on R.A. 10640 in Pagadian City

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (Jan. 6, 2015-MPF News) – The Staff of Senator Vicente “Tito” C. Sotto III led the lectures series on Monday morning at the conference room of Pagadian City Police Station regarding the Sotto Amendments to the Anti Drugs Law.

Pagadian City Chief of Police Supt. Glenn Dulawan said Senate Committee on the Dangerous Drugs team headed by former Usec of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Dangerous Drugs Board and now the staff of Sen. Vicente “Tito” C Sotto III, Atty. Clarence Paul Oaminal who is the current Anti Illegal Drugs Czar of Cebu City arrived here for the Information Education Campaign (IEC) on the Republic Act 10640.

The R.A. 10640 amending Section 21 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 known as Sotto amendments was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on July 15, 2014 that police are expected to reach an absolute conviction rate of suspects, Atty. Oaminal said.

Atty. Oaminal also explained that before the R.A. 10640 was signed, the inventory of the drug-related materials was required to be conducted at the area where the arrest took place in front of the suspects and representatives from the DOJ, mediamen and elected public officials.

Oaminal hopes positive results following the implementation of the law after it was known by the members of the law enforcement agency.  

Oaminal also express his gratitude to the Local Government Units of Zamboanga del Sur and Pagadian City for supporting the campaign against the illegal drugs through the creation of Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force and providing funds to their operations.

The lecture was attended by the members of Philippine National Police Investigation section, members of the Provincial and City Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force, other law enforcement agencies and the members of media in Pagadian City.

Supt. Dulawan also lauded the team of Atty. Oaminal for bringing the IEC of the law to their level for them to be updated.
