Gov’t releases cash assistance to rebels in Zamboanga del Sur

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Aug. 13 (PNA) -– The government through the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) has released PHP75,000 immediate cash assistance to five former New People’s Army (NPA) in this city.

Gov. Antonio Cerilles led the release of the cash assistance on Wednesday during the joint signing ceremony declaring this province as Peaceful and Ready for Further Development (PRFD).

Cerilles sits as the CLIP committee chairman being the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) head.

Each of the former NPA rebels’ beneficiaries received PHP15,000.

The beneficiaries are the following: Domecino Bontilao alias Ka Jerry; Christopher Rubio alias Ka George and Justin; Jeson Colong alias Ka Rexmar; Ramel Lumogos alias Ka Ramz; and, Raymond Sebastian alias Ka Joseph.

They belong to the different fronts of the NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC).

Provincial Information Officer Marivic Jongco said Thursday the CLIP committee is processing the PHP50,000 livelihood project for the five beneficiaries as well as the remuneration of the firearms they turned over when they surrendered to the government.

Jongco said the rebel returnees will be also enrolled to various healing intervention to facilitate their integration into the society.

She said the CLIP committee is coordinating with the other national government agencies and non-government organizations for programs that can help the rebel returnees in living a new life.

CLIP is jointly implemented by the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process.

CLIP seeks to contribute towards achieving the goal of permanent and peaceful closure of all armed conflicts with non-state armed groups. (PNA)
