100 Zambo Sur villagers receive 'Kabuhayan’ starter kits from DOLE

 DOLE Provincial Director Camilo Encila

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Oct. 2 (PNA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in partnership with the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion (IB), has released Php 670,000 worth of “Kabuhayan” Starter Kits to insurgency-vulnerable barangays in four towns in this province.

DOLE Provincial Director Camilo Encila told the Philippines News Agency that each of the 100 beneficiaries, composed of farmers, fishermen, and housewives, received Php6,700 worth livelihood starter kits Thursday.

Encila said they received three units of seven horse power engine for small boat; fishnets and fishing equipment; farming equipment; kitchen utensils; carpentry tools; barber kits; and vulcanizing shop equipment.

Encilar said the starter kits were sufficient enough to support the livelihood undertakings of the identified beneficiaries.

Encila said that 55 of the beneficiaries came from Barangay Dalapang and 10 from Barangay Bagong Oroquieta in Guipos town; 10 from Barangay Gusom, Kumalarang; and, 25 from Barangay Ocapan, San Miguel.

He said the beneficiaries were identified by the Army’s 53rd IB headed by Lt. Col. Alvin Luzon.

Luzon, in an interview, said that the four barangays were chosen since they were classified as insurgency-threatened villages being far-flung and less-developed areas.

One of the beneficiaries, 46-year old farmer Erlinda dela Peña has expressed gratitude to the DOLE and Army’s 53rd IB for the livelihood support given them.

Dela Peña, who has six children, is a resident of Barangay Ocapan, San Miguel, this province.

“It is a great honor to be chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the program,” she told the Philippine News Agency. (PNA)
