BFP records 6.7% hike in fire incidents in Pagadian City

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Jan. 4 (PNA) –- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has recorded a 6.7 percent increase in the number of fires last year, representing 19 cases from 28 in 2014 to 47 fire incidents in 2015 in the areas covered by the local fire station.

The local fire station, headed by Senior Insp. Reggy Olmedo, covers this city and the nearby municipalities of Guipos, Kumalarang, Labangan, Lakewood, San Pablo, and Tigbao.

Olmedo told the Philippines News Agency that the worth of damage to properties have also increased with the recorded rise in the number of fire incidents in 2015 compared to that in 2014.

Olmedo said they recorded 2,281 percent increase in property damaged representing PHP194.6 million from PHP8.5 million in 2014 to PHP203.1 million in 2015.

He said the biggest fire incident they recorded in 2015 was in June wherein 1,606 structures were razed in the barangays of Santiago, San Pedro and Kawit. The property damaged was placed at PHP193.5 million.

He said last year’s second biggest fire incident was recorded in December that razed 63 structures worth PHP4.6 million in Barangay Balangasan.

He disclosed that most of the fire incidents were caused by faulty electrical wirings.

He said included in the data they recorded were four vehicular fire incidents in 2015 and two cases in 2014.
