Abu Sayyaf Group declared as persona non grata in Tawi-Tawi

PAGADIAN CITY (April 11, 2021) - Members of the Tawi-Tawi Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) have joined forces in declaring the Abu Sayyaf and all Lawless Armed Groups persona non grata in on Friday, April 9, WestMinCom-PIO Chief Col. Alaric Avelino P. Delos Santo disclosed.

Col Delos Santos said this unified movement of support aims to condemn the terroristic activities of the Abu Sayyaf and all Lawless Armed Groups in all areas of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in the guise of their false ideologies.

Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. also said this is a good development in the campaign to sustain the peace and order in the province of Tawi-Tawi.

“We fully support the unified declaration made by our fellow peace advocates. We assure you that our anti-terrorism and anti-criminality campaigns are bolstered in cooperation with the local government units, and our partners and stakeholders in the area,” he added.

The signing of the resolution was done during the Joint 1st Quarter Provincial Peace and Order Council, Provincial Anti -Drugs Abuse Council, and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Meeting jibed with the 1st Quarter Joint Provincial Health Board and Provincial School Board Meeting held at the Henry V. Kong Hall of Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU TCTO) in Barangay Sanga-Sanga, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi at 9 a.m., Friday.

The resolution states that the Abu Sayyaf and all Lawless Armed Groups have no place in Tawi-Tawi.

The joint meeting was presided by Gov. Yshmael “Mang” Sali and was participated in by the local chief executives of Tawi-Tawi, Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi and 2nd Marine Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, Tawi-Tawi Provincial Police Office Deputy Director Police Maj. Abrurakib Ahmad, and representatives from all concerned agencies.

Participating agencies presented their quarterly reports during the meeting, most notable of which are the accomplishments of the different agencies such as the dismantling of the MNLF camps, the neutralization of ASG leader a.k.a. Apo Mike, the observance of health protocols, and the proper implementation of ordinances by the LGUs.

Gov. Sali stressed that the meeting aimed to maintain the peaceful situation of the province of Tawi- Tawi and to assess how far the province has gone in this endeavor.

In his message, Brig. Gen. Rojas expressed his elation by saying, “Alhamdulillah! Praise be to God. Together as One in the Fight Against Terrorism: A Resolution declaring the Abu Sayyaf Group and other Lawless Armed Group as PERSONA NON GRATA in the entire province of Tawi-Tawi was initiated by this unit and Gov. Yshmael “Mang” Sali, a stalwart partner for peace and development, and approved by all council members during the 1st Quarter Joint Meeting which coincided with the Araw ng Kagitingan 2021.
