2 NPA Rebels killed in military operation, recovers high-powered firearms

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (FMNews-May 11, 2020) – Two members of communist terrorists Group/ New People’s Army were killed in military encounter in Sitio Pisyo, Barangay Balonai, Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur Monday at 11:05am.

102nd Brigade Commander Col. Leonel Nicolas disclosed that while the troops of the 53rd Infantry Battalion conducting combat patrol, encounters with undetermined number of rebels.

Col. Nicolas said the firefight ensued that lasted for 25 minutes after which enemy withdrew to unknown direction.

"While scouring the area of engagement, pursuit and blockade are being conducted by our troops to track down the fleeing terrorists, troops recovered two enemy cadavers, two AK47, and one backpack containing subversive documents," Nicolas added.

Recovered cadavers were extricated from the area for proper disposition.

"We call on the people to remain vigilant and report to the government forces the presence of suspicious looking people in their communities," Joint Task Force ZamPeLan Commander Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio said.


"I commend the troops of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan for their remarkable accomplishments amid the health crisis," said, WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana.

"Rest assured that we will disallow these terror groups to thrive in the communities by exhausting all our capabilities," Lt. Gen. Sobejana added. (By JONG D. CADION)
