Balabag,
Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur - On or about 3:00 p.m. of 25 July 2012, an informant
reported that a group of ISSMO laborers carrying illegal mining
implements were sighted approaching Naro road from Guinoman, Diplahan,
Zamboanga Sibugay.
At
about 5:00 p.m same day, 2Lt Benito Garcia (Ret), Security Officer in Charge of
Balabag IA Visibility Point, sent out a 4-man
Monitoring Team led by Godofredo
Jungoy Jr. to check of the said report.
Upon
arrival at Naro road, Godofredo was surprised to see some 20 laborers carrying
contrabands about to cross the Naro point from Depore Creek. He then tried to stop the said group of
laborers while waiting for the Blue
Guard Team to arrive.
But
the laborers resisted by arming themselves with wood sticks and attacking Godofredo Jungoy who, after being hit on the head and arms several
times, fired a warning shot from his
personal pistol cal.45 to stop his attackers.
But the laborer group ignored the warning shot and continued mauling
Godofredo.
Sensing
a great danger to his life from a superior number of attackers, Godofredo fired another shot hitting in the
chest one laborer identified as Wilbert Catampungan.
Blue
Guard Team led by 2Lt Garcia later arrived at the scene and apprehended 12
laborers that were still on site, confiscated their contrabands and brought
them to IA Visibility Center including Godofredo who voluntarily surrendered to
him.
Paralegal
Officer Carl Estaño who was at the IA Visibility Center reported the incident to the PNP Team at Balabag and immediately 3 PNP
personnel led by PO3 Reynan Alipalo of 2MC,9RPSB
arrived at the scene, recovered the victim and brought same to Municipal Health
Center of Bayog where he was declared dead on arrival. Later, the Police
transferred the cadaver to the funeral parlor at Poblacion Bayog.
Meanwhile,
Paralegal Officer and 2Lt Garcia surrendered Godofredo and his pistol used to
Bayog Municipal Police Station for custody and 12 laborers that were
apprehended and subsequently blottered the incident.
COP
PI Erol Alejo submitted Godofredo Jungoy for medical examination at Bayog
Health Center and still waiting for result.
