PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Aug. 15 (PNA) -– The power consumers being served by the Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperative-1 (Zamsureco-1) are experiencing daily rotational brownout for the past five days now.

Zamsureco-1 Information Officer Liberal Cabatcha said Friday that they are implementing a three-hour daily rotational brownout due to insufficient power supply from the Mindanao grid.

Cabatcha said they were informed there is shortage of power supply as one of the two units of the 210 megawatts (MW) coal-fired power plant of the STEAG State Power, Inc. in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, conked out and is under repair.

Cabatcha said Zamsureco-1 has to implement a three-hour daily rotational brownout since it is only receiving 29 MW power supply daily, which is lower by 5-MW than its peak load demand a day.

The peak load demand of Zamsureco-1 is 34 MW to enable the cooperative to supply electricity to its 69,857 member-consumers in one city and 24 of this province’ 26 towns.

Cabatcha said the three-hour rotational brownout will be lifted once the power supply from the Mindanao Grid returns to normal. (PNA)
