PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Aug. 13 (PNA) –- Storm surge spawned by typhoon Hanna that hit the country earlier this month has damaged PhP6 million worth of farm products and properties in seven coastal barangays in this city.

Haron Damada, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) chief, said Thursday that PhP4 million of the total destruction were seaweed farms and the remaining PhP2 million were infrastructure such as seaweed dryer, footbridge and bancas of fishermen.

Damada said five of the seven affected barangays were hardest hit and these are Bomba, Poloyagan, San Pedro, Tawagan Sur and White Beach.

Damada added that minimal damage was reported in the barangays of Kawit and Muricay.

The City Council in its regular session on Tuesday has declared, through a resolution, the five hardest hit barangays as under state of calamity.

Damada said the declaration of the City Council was based on the assessment conducted by his office.

He said they are currently listing the number of fishermen and seaweed farmers affected in preparation for the grant of financial assistance. (PNA)
