Lugus , Sulu—PDP Laban Mayoralty and Vice-Mayoralty bets
in Lugus, Sulu downplayed rumours circulating that they are quitting the local
race even as they revealed that more
supporters are now rallying behind their candidacy,
Sisters Hadja Amra Sali Macalangcom and Hadja Dzubaida
Sali Abdul, who are running for the two top executive posts in Sulu’s 2nd
district island town of Lugus dismissed propaganda dished out that they are
withdrawing from the election.
“People are clamouring for us to continue the race so
there is no reason that we heeded the call to compromise. What our focus is to
muster the help and support of all our constituents who have appealed for
reforms and good governance, that’s why we continue our crusade with them for
betterment of our children’s future, the Sali sisters said.
At the same time, they revealed that there are some
quarters believed coming from other camps who are trying to negotiate for them
to withdraw the race in exchange for some offers, which they out rightly rejected.
“We are not quitting, the sisters emphasized. We will
fight to the last for the right and freedom of our people to exercise their
liberty to choose their leaders to bring development and peace to our beloved
town of Lugus, long denied of progress and prosperity,” the Sali sisters added.

pagdagan ini para ha kasambuhan iban kasanyangan sin hulah Lugus. Way sabab in
kami mag withdraw. (There is no truth to the rumours that we are withdrawing
the race. The race will continue for peace and progress of our dear Lugus as
there is no reason for us to quit)
Considered as “unifiers” of their people, the sisters
vowed to institute the needed reforms under the core principles and policies of
the PDP-Laban platform of government. The Sali are born leaders in their own
right as pure blood of public servants runs in their veins.
A midwife- nurse by profession, mayoralty bet Ms.
Macalangcom believes in the need for change for the betterment of her
impoverish and poor, marginalized people.” That’s why am running because I have
to listen to the clamour and sentiments of our constituents,” Macalangcom
stressed. She is married to Engr. Yusuf Khandie Macalangcom, a businessman who
hails from Lanao province.
Vice-Mayor bet Hadja Dzubaida, presently engaged in
conventional family business, is a medical technologist who had briefly worked
abroad in Hamad Medical Corp. Qatar for 7 years after being connected with the
DOH, has also decided to thrown her candidacy for the same objective. Haj.
Dzubaida married to Haji Cid Sangkula Abdul, grandson of Maas Jana Sangkula, of
the Sangkula clan of Parang Sulu, who used to be Chief Medical technologist at
the Integrated Provincial Health office in Sulu.
Tandem (sisters), whose forebears were respected public
servants, successful businessmen and religious leaders and pioneering educators
since the early 60’s vowed to elevate the living conditions of people and
institute peace through unity and Islamic morality.
Like their father, the well known “Mastal Dakulah” the
late Abdultalib Sali, public school teacher and their late mother the Hadja
Fatima Irilis Sali (wealthy entrepreneur), the duo vowed to continue her
advocacy and legacy of her parents.
Their maternal great grandfather was the respectable
Panglima Rugasan or better known as “El Presidente”, who served for 45 years as
leader of the island dating back to the pre-Philippine Republic, whose son
Irilis became the mayor of the place for over 30 years as mayor. Mayor Irilis
(Amna’s maternal grandfather) had also served public-spiritedly the
constituents, when Ta-pul and Lugus Islands were one municipality at that
time. Another son Hadji Alawi also
became a mayor and served until the separation of the twin islands into
separate municipalities under the Marcos regime by way of legislation. While
another maternal uncle Hadji Butlangan was also elected vice-mayor.
Proud for his integrity their paternal grandfather the
late Hadji Sali, who was a wealthy businessman (Asiendero and entrepreneur)
while at the same time, considered among the first educators recognized in the
province whose father is the first cousin of Western Mindanao Grand Mufti
Ustadz Abdulbaki Abukakar.
Both believed that under the strong and decisive
leadership of Duterte a new beginning will usher in not only for Lugus and
Sulu, but for the entire ARMM and the country which is in dire need for change.
Uplift living condition of people by addressing puberty thru livelihood and entrepreneurship,
they emphasized,
As business leaders, they have pioneered establishments
of small –medium stall-owners associations in various malls in Metro Manila,
Zamboanga and Jolo and taking the lead in construction and renovations of
mosques in Muslim communities in many parts of the country as part of their
sincere commitment to serve.
As successful entrepreneurs turned public servants
emphasized that among their top priorities once elected, would be improvement
of water supply, power generation, livelihood projects, social services,
education and skills development, agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure, human
rights, environmental protection, good governance, peace and security and rule
of law.
Recently, thousand of Lugus townfolks were elated after
receiving medical help who for long in dire need of medical assistance long
denied them have seen hope. Lugus town, a third class municipality.
Both Sali sisters being strongly supported by townfolks
and many local leaders as well as business and religious communities in the
island municipality of Sulu’s second district.
Lugus has 17 barangays, Lugus Proper, Bas Lugus, Bas
Nunuk, Huwit-Huwit, Tingcangan, Laha, Mangkallay, Kayawan, Alu Bus-Bus, Alu
Duyung, Pait, Laap, Kutah Parang, Gapas Rugasan, Gapas, Mantan Tubig Tuwak and
Sibul with population of over 30-thousand who are remained poor.
“We are committed to do our best to help in our little
but special way to help uplift the living conditions of our people in Lugus,
Inshaallah” The fight for development continue as they urged the voters to
rally behind their candidacy. “Let us unite to make this dream a reality,” Sali
