ZAMBOANGA CITY (May 1,
2017) - The Filipinos in the country will celebrate Labor Day on May 1, 2017,
during this time, various labor organizations, transport groups, and other
militant/ cause -oriented groups are expected to conduct simultaneous mass
actions to air their grievances and demands against the present administration.
Likewise, other threat groups might take advantage of the occasion and launch
terror attacks or other nefarious activities, official said.

PSUPT ROGELIO C ALABATA disclosed that the PRO9 joins the PNP in undertaking
the necessary preparations to ensure the peaceful conduct of Labor Day
celebration in Zamboanga Peninsula. The PNP personnel deployed are under a
strong directive to uphold the basic rights of freedom of speech and the
freedom of peaceful assembly.
PSupt. Alabata said that
the PNP personnel are reminded to observe the Revised Police Operational
Procedures of the organization, always placed the highest respect for human
rights, exercise maximum tolerance in case a mass assemblies or protests arises
and act accordingly as a good example of a true police officer.
The PNP will continue
its anti-criminality operations against criminal/ lawless elements. Basic
police duties and responsibilities in the maintenance of peace and order and
public safety will not be compromised, he added.

BILLY B BELTRAN said with the long weekend ahead, the public is encouraged to
be vigilant against modus operandi of criminal/ lawless elements. He also urges
the public to report to the authorities any untoward incidents.
