NPA surrenders with firearm in Zamboanga Sibugay

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (May 26, 2019) – A twenty-one-year-old active member of NPA turned over himself together with his M14 rifle to the 44th Infantry Battalion in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Thursday May 23, 2019, Tabak Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) Official disclosed.

“Alias Jason (not his true name) revealed that due to hardships and frustrations to their commanders that led him to escape from the communist terrorist group and surrender,” said Lt. Col Don Templonuevo, the 44th Infantry Battalion Commander.

Alias Jason was only 19 when recruited by the NPA in his hometown in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. After two years of hurdling unexplained hardships (tired and hunger) in the mountains of Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur and the false promises of their communist leaders, he decided to lay down his arms to the government and be with his family.

“Together with the stakeholders, we will assist the former rebels (FRs) avail of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) for them to become productive citizens of our country,” said Brigadier General Bagnus Gaerlan, Jr., commander of the 102nd Brigade which has operational jurisdiction over Zamboanga Sibugay.

From January 2019 up to this date, thirty-two (32) Communists NPA Terrorists have realized the futility of the communist ideology and have abandoned the armed violence that they espoused.

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Roberto T Ancan, 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) Commander, commended the joint efforts of the troops which led to the surrender of one NPA terrorist.

Ancan stressed that “the campaign against communist NPA terrorists and other threat groups will be relentless in order to attain a just and lasting peace in 1ID’s area of operation.”

“We call on the remaining NPAs to denounce violence, lay down their arms and live peacefully together with their families,” Ancan added. (With DPAO press release and photo)
