ZAMBOANGA CITY
(January 3, 2018) - The Police Regional Office (PRO) 9 has recorded
“negative” incidents of stray bullet, indiscriminate firing, and fire or
burning incident due to firecrackers during the New Year’s Celebration in the
City of Zamboanga City and Provinces of Zamboanga Del Sur, Zamboanga Del Norte
and Zamboanga Sibugay. There were also no reported major injuries in relation
to use of firecrackers, official said.

Beltran, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 9, said that the Zero
Casualties New Year’s Celebration in the region factored in the strict
implementation of Executive Order No. 28 (Regulating the use of firecrackers
and other pyrotechnic devices) and the security preparation implemented by the
police during the New Year’s Eve.
The Regional Director
also said that the cooperation of the Local Government Units and other agencies
like Department of Health, Department of Interior and Local Government, Bureau
of Fire, local police and of course the general public contributed to the Zero
Casualties incident in the region.
Earlier, The Regional
Director, during the New Year’s Eve visited police stations in Zamboanga City
and oversees the security preparation being implemented by the police to ensure
a safe New Year’s Celebration in the region.
PCSUPT Beltran even call
for public cooperation in the campaign against indiscriminate firing especially
during New Year’s Revelry in the whole Zamboanga Peninsula region and appealed
to the public as well as to fellow PNP personnel to include other uniformed
personnel not to use guns in welcoming the New Year due to threats to life and
property. He even urged citizens to report to the police by reporting any
incident of indiscriminate firing of guns or use of prohibited firecrackers to
the PRO9 hotline numbers or to the nearest police stations and using their
mobile phones, they can document or video gun holders who will fire their
weapons indiscriminately and upload in the social media.
The Police Regional
Office (PRO) 9 even advised all field commanders to strictly enforce the Executive
Order No. 28 (regulating the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices)
and prevent the indiscriminate firing. Likewise, Local Government Unit was also
directed to designate specific areas as firecrackers zone and community
fireworks display in the region.
