Europian to grant P312M for IDPs livelihood in Mindanao

QUEZON CITY - The European Union is providing P312 million to boost the livelihood recovery of some 50,000 families or 300,000 persons displaced by past conflicts in Central Mindanao.

In a statement, Thelma Gecolea, EU Delegation to the Philippines, said that the grant is under the project dubbed "Enhancing the Resilience of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Central Mindanao by Strengthening Livelihoods."

"This is a concrete and strong reaffirmation of the EU's commitment to support the peace process in Mindanao," Gecolea said.

She said that there will also be a signing of the contribution agreement between the EU and the World Food Programme with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao as witnesses.

The event is set to take place on October 22 at the DSWD office at Constitution Hills in Quezon City.

Expected to attend are Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman, OPAPP Secretary Teresita Quintos Deles, ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman, MILF Peace Panel member Mike Pasigan, EU Ambassador Guy Ledoux, UN Resident Coordinator Luiza Carvalho and WFP Country Representative Stephen Anderson.
