PAGADIAN CITY,
ZAMBOSUR (Feb. 5, 2014 Pagadian FONTLINE NEWS) -- The Dept. of Environment and
Natural Resources (DENR) IX represented by its Executive Director Arleigh J.
Adorable recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Director Noemi B.
Edaga of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) IX for the dissemination of
information about Climate Change Mitigation to various sectors of society at
the local level.
Also present during
the MOA signing were Gedion Corgue and OIC RPAO Roservirico Tan who signed as
witnesses for Dir. Edaga and Executive Director Adorable, respectively.
The aforesaid Accord
was an offshoot of the Agreement which was signed earlier by their respective
secretaries at the main office in Manila for the immediate adoption of mitigation
measures, nationwide aimed at minimizing the effects of climate change and
global warming.

As the lead agency
that heads the environment cluster on climate change mitigation and adaptation
and at the same time leads the advocacy work of the government in raising
public awareness of disaster risks reduction, the DENR-IX shall tap PIA IX as
they have the technical expertise, network, and capability in implementing
advocacy campaigns that includes but not limited to the production and
dissemination of information materials using multi-media including social media
platforms.
Aside from providing
the necessary funds to PIA IX in implementing the Climate Change Advocacy
Campaign in Zamboanga Peninsula, the DENR IX shall provide the former with
pertinent reference materials and resource persons that may be required in the
campaign implementation; and monitor the implementation of all activities under
this Agreement.
As stipulated in the
Agreement, the PIA IX shall have the following responsibilities: provide technical, administrative and
management services in the implementation of the Climate Change Advocacy
Campaign in the regional level pursuant to an Implementation Plan duly signed
and approved by the parties involved; secure the television commercial
materials from the PIA head office and draw
up a media plan for the airing of the above stated materials over local television; develop and maintain
social media community and platform (e.g. Facebook Page, Website); organize and
strengthen networks of program advocates in the Region; and organize and
conduct advocacy activities/events on the ground including but not limited to
campus tours and community fora in the Region; among others.
