ZAMBOANGA CITY, April 29 (PNA) -- The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has found several violations committed by the transport company that owns the bus involved in Sunday’s accident in Zamboanga del Sur that killed six people and injured 16 others.
LTFRB Regional
Director Abdulgafar Mohammad disclosed in an interview Tuesday that the bus
involved in the accident does not have a franchise and official receipt (OR) as
well as certificate of registration (CR).
The bus is owned by
the Rural Transit Management, Incorporated (RTMI) that owns and operates fleet
of buses plying in the region up to Region IX.
The police said the
bus turned upside down and pinned to death three of its 40 passengers that
include two teenagers and a seven-year-old child.
Three others,
including a three-month-old baby and a two-year-old girl, died while being
treated at the hospital, according to the police.
Mohammad said that
further investigation showed the route of the bus is Zamboanga City to Cagayan
de Oro City via the cities of Pagadian and Iligan but its panel route marking
is Pagadian City to Cagayan de Oro via Ozamis City.
Mohammad said this
showed the bus is out of line aside from being an unregistered or “colorum”
unit.
He said they have
forwarded their investigation findings and the police report concerning the
accident as well as photographs to the LTFRB central office for appropriate
action.
“We in the region has
provided all the necessary information for them to decide on the case,” he said
citing it is already in the jurisdiction of the LTFRB central office. (PNA)
