PAGADIAN CITY,
Zamboanga del Sur, Aug. 14 (PNA) -- An estimated close to P1 million worth of
properties went up in smoke when a fire hit Wednesday night a closely-built
community in Barangay Balangasan, this city.

Olmedo, city fire marshal, said the fire which lasted for about an hour and 39
minutes razed to the ground 10 houses, mostly two-storey structures.
Olmedo said the fire,
which broke out around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, started from the residence of
Ludivica Agan and rapidly spread to nearby houses.
Olmedo said investigation showed the fire was caused by a lighted candle that was left unattended after Agan’s nephew, Jassen Al-os, who was at home at that time fell asleep.
Olmedo added that
there was no electricity at the time of the incident.
He said there was no
reported casualty but 10 houses were razed to the ground. A heavy equipment
(excavator) was also damaged.
Meanwhile, the City
Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) have immediately provided relief
assistance to the affected families. (PNA)
