PAGADIAN CITY, ZAMBOSUR (Pagadian
FRONTLINE NEWS December 6, 2013) – The Western Mindanao Regional Development
Council (WM-RDC) had gained supports from the Department of Environment and
Natural Resources (DENR) Region 9 Executive Director Arleigh J. Adorable during
their series launching of Information Caravan in Jose Dalman, Zamboanga del
Norte and Midsalip of Zamboanga del Sur recently.
This was in response to the invitation
made by the RDC’s Regional Communication and Advocacy Plan-Technical Working
Group (RCAP-TWG) Chairperson, Mindanao Communicators’ Network (MCN) President
and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Regional Director Noemi B. Edaga to participate
in the said caravan for poverty reduction.
DENR Regional Director Adorable in his
memorandum order urged his provincial and community officers concerned to join
the said caravan as it provides a perfect opportunity for government agencies
to address the specific needs and problems of the people in the area in terms
of information campaigns, technical services and direct assistance.
Prior to the Information Caravan
Program at Jose Dalman in Zamboanga del Norte, DENR-IX personnel together with Mayor
Rachel D. Ferrater, Municipal Employees, school teachers and Philippine
National Police personnel planted a total of 200 seedlings of Narra, Lumbayao
and Kamagong trees at the back of the Municipal Hall.
This was followed by an information
campaign on Climate Change, Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies, National
Greening Program and other Priority Programs at Ponot National High School and
in Municipal gymnasium attended by the residents that were able also to avail
on various services offered by different government agencies.
DENR personnel distributed assorted
information materials consisting of posters, primers and flyers on Climate
Change, National Greening Program and Residential Pre-Patent (RA 10023) and also
offered technical assistance to the public on land titling.
In Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur, the
DENR team spearheaded the tree planting activity participated in by its fourth
year students and teachers of Midsalip National High School and the community. A
total of 200 seedlings of Mahogany trees were provided by the Forest Management
Services of DENR were planted along the roadside fronting the school.
In behalf of the selected students from
Grades VII-VIII and third year, the school-in-charge Cecilia Z. Colegado
expressed appreciation to the DENR and other government agencies for selecting
their school as the recipient of Information caravan program thru symposium on
environmental awareness which focused the issue on Climate Change and National
Greening Program that will protect the Watershed and Biodiversity Conservation.
“We are very happy also to be chosen as
the beneficiaries of various information materials on environment and natural
resources who vowed to work for Earth Care,” the school-in-charge Colegado
said.
The DENR team turned-over 200 seedlings
Mahogany trees to Midsalip Mayor Liwaya Angcap-Paras which were also
distributed to their Barangay Chairpersons and constituents including the
distribution of information materials on environmental education, demonstration
on how to handle and plant a tree.
