called for reinforcement after the NPA rebels failed to properly introduce
themselves as government troops.
PAGADIAN CITY,
Zamboanga del Sur, Dec.
15 (PNA) -–The police have foiled an attempt of the New People’s Army (NPA)
rebels to attack the police station in Josefina municipality, this province.
This came about after
the policemen managed to detect that the uniformed men who went to their
headquarters were not government forces.
The Josefina police
reported that the NPA rebels arrived around 6:15 a.m. Saturday and pretended to
report and turn over an arrested wanted person.
The NPA rebels
hastily left and were already gone when the reinforcement from the Provincial Public
Safety Company (PPSC) arrived.
The troops from the
Army’s 6th Special Forces Battalion pursued the NPA rebels and clash with them
few hours later in Barangay Bato, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte.
The troops have recovered
a Garand rifle, ammunition and subversive documents with high intelligence
value.
Have it not detected,
provincial police director Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre said that the planned
attack in Josefina Police Station was supposed to be a simultaneous attacked
with the police station in Don Victoriano Chiongbian, Missamis Occidental.

the police station of Don Victoriano Chiongbian around 5:00 a.m. Saturday,
almost the same time another group of NPAs attempted to attack the police headquarters
