PAGADIAN CITY,
Zamboanga del Sur, Dec. 27 (PNA) -– The local government through the City
Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has released the last quarter
social pension to the 388 senior citizens in this city.
Office of the Senior
Citizens Affairs (OSCA) head Emeteria Arbitrario said Friday the senior
citizen-beneficiaries have received Thursday their social pension at P1,500
each.
Arbitrario said the
P500 monthly social pension given to the senior citizens is mandated under the
Republic Act 9994 otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.

The funding for the
social pension comes from the Department of Social Welfare and Development
(DSWD) and released to the beneficiaries through the local government units.
Those entitled to
received are Filipino citizens who are 60 years old and above.
The local government
started the implementation of R.A. 9994 in 2011 and has a total of 388 listed
beneficiaries to date.
Arbitrario said
another 110 elderly will be added to the list of beneficiaries in January 2014.
Meanwhile, Arbitratio
said that senior citizens are also entitled to death benefit assistance of
P2,000 which is given to the nearest surviving relative who took care for the
deceased elderly until his or her death.
Senior citizens are
also entitled to the following: discount privileges; free services; exemptions;
incentives; government financial assistance; and, priority express lanes.(PNA)
