PAGADIAN CITY,
Zamboanga del Sur (June 5, MPF News) –- The Atro Mining-Vitali Incorporated
(AMVI) is set to spearhead Friday another round of river clean up and tree
planting in Vitali River, east of this city.
AMVI Resident Manager
Leo Soza said in a statement that at least 100 employees of the company will
temporarily leave their stations to clear the Vitali River of garbage and
debris, which will be followed by the planting of 300 seedlings of acacia
mangium and mahogany along the riverbank.
Soza said they will
be joined by barangay officials, academe, civic sectors, and Environmental
Management Bureau-9 (EMB-9).
“The river clean up,
will be the fifth since 2012,” Soza said. Last March 21, the company conducted
the fourth round of river clean up.
He said the river
clean up on Thursday will focus on the area near Tigtubo Bridge of Barangay
Vitali. “We are doing this on a regular basis,” he added.
He said that the
AMVI, in a memorandum of agreement with EMB-9 and the Vitali Barangay Council
signed on August 15, 2012, has committed itself to assist in training community
leaders in solid waste management; water quality management; and mobilization
of residents to implement the agency's River Environmental Management Program.
He said they have
also committed to work with the village officials to implement the project.
“Part of our annual
plans and program is to care for the river and all bodies of water as we do
business in the community,” Soza said.
The Company was
awarded 2nd place in 2012 by EMB-9 for its river clean-up program.
The AMVI is an iron
ore mining company which is set to commence its development phase soon.
The firm has an
Exclusive Mines Operating Agreement with Hard Rock Mineral Trading, Inc.
(HRMTI) which grants exclusive rights to conduct mining operations within the
Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) area.
The MPSA area has a
total area of 2,077.3084 hectares located in Upper Tagpangi, Barangay Vitali, east
