Zambo Sur cops capture robbery gang members, kill 3 in shootout; charges filed

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, March 9 (PNA) -– The local police have filed charges Sunday afternoon before the prosecutor’s office against five alleged robbery group members they captured following a shootout in the nearby town of Tukuran.

Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, provincial police director, said among the charges they filed against the suspects were three counts robbery, frustrated murder and attempted murder.

Ecaldre identified the respondents as Edgardo Elmidulan, 54; Wilma Putis, 45; Maljon Lumuljo, 35; Sugar Libot Clifon, 28; and, Genelyn Baller Lacre, 27.

Ecaldre said the respondents were among the eight people that engaged in a shootout with policemen around 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Barangay Camanga, Tukuran, this province.

Three of their companions namely Kyle John Gumera, 25; a certain Balong and a certain Dodong were killed during the shootout while Clifon and Lacre were wounded and admitted at a local hospital.

Ecaldre said the shootout ensued following a chase after the suspects, who were on board a Sports Utility Vehicle, ignored a checkpoint in Barangay Militar, Tukuran.

Ecladre said the policemen established checkpoint while responding to a reported shooting and robbery incidents at a restaurant in Barangay Militar.

He said the responding policemen have recovered four caliber .45, a Glock-17 and a 9-millimeter (mm) pistols with ammunitions at the site of the shootout.

He said investigation showed the 9-mm pistol belongs to a policeman and the Glock-17 is a government-issued firearm.

He said the suspects were allegedly responsible in robbery incidents in Cagayan de Oro City and in the robbery hold-up of private courier firms few week ago in this province. (PNA)
