PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (Dec. 7,
2018-PNA) –
Ten high-powered firearms were surrendered to 2nd Mechanized Battalion, 2nd
Mechanized Brigade in the municipality of Nunungan, in the nieghboring province of Lanao del Norte Thursday (December 6, 2018), military official said.
“The
successful surrender of firearms was made possible by the local government unit
of Nunungan,” said Brig. Gen. Thomas Sedano Jr, Brigade Commander.
“And
we thank them for their trust and support to our troops in contributing peace
and development in the municipality,” he added.
The
surrendered firearm includes eight garand rifle, one caliber 30 and one 40mm
grenade launcher.
Army’s
Premier Division Chief Maj. Gen. Roseller Murillo, Joint Task Force Zampelan
(Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) Commander, commended the efforts of
the troops and stakeholders involved.
“The
continuous surrender of loose firearms will minimize the crimes and atrocities
and will further led to a more progressive community,” Maj.Gen. Murillo said.
“We will continuously work together with stakeholders in bringing just and
lasting peace in our area of operation,” he added.
