Surrendered by a 19-year old resident of Barangay Datu Baguindah Putih, Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi was one undocumented Springfield M1 Garand rifle that is currently in the custody of the 312th Marine Company for initial firearm check and investigation.
“The continuing surrender of loose firearms in Tawi-Tawi is an offshoot of the diplomatic mentoring launched by our marine troops,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander, Western Mindanao Command.As of this press release, a total of 28 unregistered/ undocumented firearms were handed over to the JTF Tawi-Tawi since January 2021.
“We acknowledge the positive response of the people to our campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms here in Tawi-Tawi,” said Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, Commander, JTF Tawi-Tawi.
Last May 27, one Springfield M1 Garand rifle was also handed over to the 312MC by a 52-year old man.
“Our troops continue
to clear the communities from loose firearms to lessen the possibility of using
this instrument of violence in conducting lawless activities,” said Lt. Gen.
