By HIROHITO D. CADION

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Jan. 2 (PNA) -- The police have arrested in a manhunt operation the chief security officer of a government fish port for his involvement in the New Year’s Eve shooting incident in this city, an official announced Thursday.

The suspect, Rodolfo Calago, a retired soldier and now the chief security officer of the city government fish port, was arrested Wednesday following an almost two-day manhunt operation.

Local police chief Supt. Glenn Dulawan said Calago was arrested by his personnel backed by policemen from the Provincial Public Safety Company at a checkpoint in the municipality of Tigbao, this province.

Prior to the incident, Dulawan said Calago engaged in a heated argument at the fishing port with Macario Tingson, 52, a businessman of Tukuran town, this province.

Dulawan said Calago left the fishing port after the verbal tussle with Tingson.
However, Calago shot Tingson’s vehicle hitting the driver, Allan Chavez, 52, at Purok Bougainvilla-2 while the businessman and Chavez were on the way home to Barangay San Pedro, this city.

Chavez was recuperating at the hospital from a bullet in his buttock, Dulawan said.

Calago went into hiding after the incident that prompted the police to launch a manhunt operation that resulted to his arrest in the town of Tigbao, according to Dulawan.

He said appropriate charges will be filed against Calago, who is detained at the local police headquarters. (PNA)
