Provincial police director Senior Supt. James Mejia |
DIPOLOG CITY, Zamboanga del Norte, Jan. 6 (PNA) -– The
provincial police command, in partnership with the city government, has
organized a 30-man team of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) in a bid to
strengthen the police force's capability in responding to atrocity by lawless
elements in this province.
Provincial police director Senior Supt. James Mejia said
the training of the SWAT team, which will last for 45 days, has already started
and is set to end on February 6.
Mejia said the members of team have been selected from
the Dipolog City Police Station, Provincial Public Safety Company and from the
provincial headquarters.
“There are incidents that our police force was able to
manage, but it is better to have well-trained personnel and to have a team of
personnel ready for whatever eventualities,” Mejia added.
However, he noted that the provincial command,
particularly Dipolog City Police station, has registered the lowest crime rate
in the entire region.
Meanwhile, Mayor Evelyn Uy through the City Peace and
Order Council (CPOC) will provide some of the necessary equipment the SWAT team
needs in the performance of duty. (PNA)
