2 killed 17 injured as bus falls into ravine in Zambo Sur

TIGBAO, Zamboanga del Sur, Oct. 16 (MPF-News) – Two people, including a government official, were killed and 17 others hurt when the bus they were riding in fell into a ravine in this town Wednesday evening, a police report reaching here Thursday said.

Local police chief for investigation Senior Police Officer 4 (SPO4) Eleazar Carcallas identified the fatalities as National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP)-Basilan Provincial Officer Baharan Maulod and Macario Omac, 46, driver of the ill-fated bus.


Carcallas said a bus of the Rural Transit Mindanao, Inc. (RTMI) with registered plate JVH-435 driven by Omac was bound for this city from Zamboanga City when it fell into a ravine around 10:35 p.m. Wednesday in Barangay Maragang, this municipality.


Carcallas said the bus rammed a concrete house and fell into the ravine after it overshot a curve as Omac lost control of the steering wheel.

He said no one among the occupants of the house, owned by Ebenezer Racho, were either killed or wounded.

The wounded passengers were identified as follows: 1. Rolansdo Sanico Simbahon, 30, Bus conductor and resident of Brgy. Kalasan, Pagadian City; 2. Rosally Ploya Curaza, 32,married, resident of Brgy Sagapod, Maigo Lanao del Norte; 3. Robert Alvin BaylonBalahim, 26, married, resident of Brgy. Sinunuc, Zamboanga City; 4. Rodeza Flomarte Tolete Ferrer, 22, single resident of Limon Drive Triplet Canelar, Zamboanga City; 5. Rodulfo Fernando Alfaro, Jr. 33, resident of Shanty Luyahan, Zamboanga City; 6. Gregorio Robin Salazar, 26, single, resident of Brgy. Bolong, Zamboanga City; 7. Engr. George Tangkapan Jocutan, 38, resident of Newslane Drive, Baliwasan, Zamboanga City; 8. Retired MSgt Alberto Tomoy Soria, 64, married, resident of Zone 8, Bagong Silang, Iligan City-he claimed that his carried Sling Bag contained personal documents, cellfon and cash P2,000 more or less was missing; 9. Leokin Lim Kalbi, 65, widow, Teacher, resident of Bongao, Tawi-tawi; 10. Saida Mohamad Lapasaran, 35, married, resident of Brgy. Tiguma, Pagadian City-claiming that her personal belonging was left behind inside the bus; 11. Jose Tan, 25, married, resident of Zamboanga City; 12. Efraim Mecines, 25, single, resident of North Cotabato; 13.  Luis C. Dogoc, 51, married, resident of Prk Piña Bangus St., Makugihon, Milave, Zamboangaq del Sur; 14. Lizabel Caoile, 50, married, resident of Zamboanga City; 15. Leizyl V. Divinagracia, 28, single, resident of Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte; 16. Rey C. Bentoy, 41, married, resident of Veterans Drive, Lamaitan City, Basilan and 17. Yuri Fajardo Gagarin, 34, single, resident of Makati City.

Carcallas said all the injured were rushed to the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center in Pagadian City for treatment.
