PAGADIAN CITY,
Zamboanga del Sur, Dec. 3 (PNA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
here has intensified its campaign against the sale of sub-standard decorations
particularly Christmas lights.
Ma. Socorro Atay,
DTI-Zamboanga del Sur director, said Wednesday her enforcement team is going
around the province inspecting business establishments to ensure the Christmas
decorations being sold are of good quality.
The office of Atay
covers the entire province, which comprises of one component city - Pagadian
City - and 26 municipalities.
Atay said the move is
to ensure the protection of the consumers from unfortunate incidents like fire
originated from the use of sub-standard Christmas lights.
The DTI official
advised the public to refrain from buying uncertified Christmas lights bearing
the following brand names “Mabuhay Star,” “Ako,” and “Lucky Deer.”
She said the DTI has
also suspended the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) of two importers of
Christmas lights namely “Great Circles Trading” and “Highest Regard
Enterprises.”
She asked retailers
to only sell certified decorations particularly Christmas lights.
She also advised
consumers to buy certified brands of Christmas lights and to look for the ICC
and Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) markings. (PNA)
