CITY (February 18, 2018) - The Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9-9) through
the Regional Police Community Relations Division (RPCRD) in partnership with
the group of Muslim Religious Scholar based in Zamboanga City held a
consultative conference subbed as Ulama: Brothers Conversations for Harmony,
Mutual Respect and Common Good at the PRO9 Function Hall, Camp Gen Eduardo
Batalla, Justice RT Lim Boulevard, Zamboanga City on February 14, 2018.

Madzgani M Mukaram, Chief of Regional Police Community Relations Division
(RPCRD), said that the conference with the Group of “Ulama” anchored on the
following objectives; Produce Coordinating Working Mechanisms among the Ulama
and the PNP towards harmony and solidarity in the name of goodwill; Open venue
where matters refers to communal societal concerns are being discussed and reach
out to each sectors and initiate open conversation.

Mukaram further said that the Ulama is regarded as the guardian of faith which brings
unity among Muslims and solidify the faith under one common direction while the
Philippine National Police in particular assumes the role of guarding the
social security within the framework of the law of the land that is guided by
morality and aimed to secure the fundamental rights of its constituents.

PCInsp Helen L Galvez said, on the part of PNP, that this is an initiative long
overdue; however, it is better initiated than leaving dormant. The PNP as
security components of the society assume and assured to perform its role as
prescribe by laws in this initiative. The Ulama on the others side will
solidify the role of being the guardian of religion and morality not only on
ritualistic and preaching but doing the part of communal counterparts. This
will assures the coordinated role of ULAMA and PNP mutual functions.

Mukaram further stressed out that PRO-9 and the Ulama bring unifying body of peace
makers, brothers in faith, and civilian of the land. This initiative is just
the beginning of open conversation that will restore the faith of society to
the Vicegerent of Peace.
