The Batang Pinoy aims
to develop and select potential athletes coming from in and out of
school youths following
the International Standard
by the Federation of Sports in order for them to be equipped and prepared for future national and international
sports competitions such as the Youth Olympic Games and also to encourage all local government executives to invest in the
development of sports within their respective areas, she added.

PAGADIAN CITY,
Zamboanga del Sur (Sept. 9, 2014-MPF News) --- At least more than 2,900 athletes
had registered as of 12:00 noon September 9 to participate in the Batang Pinoy qualifying
Mindanao leg 2014 that will be opened Wednesday here, Philippine Sports Commission
Official said.
Batang Pinoy Project
Director head Atty. Jay Alano from the National Events and Competition Office
of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) said Tuesday that everything is ready
for the opening tomorrow simultaneous with the kick-off weeklong celebration of
the 62nd Founding Anniversary of Zamboanga del Sur.
Athletes coming from
different provinces and cities in Mindanao are expected to arrive today to
compete from September 10-14, 2014 for the Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg together
with their respective team managers, coaches and trainers.
“These will go to be a
big event tomorrow during the opening. We are also hopeful to meet the target
registration of 3,500 athletes from all over Mindanao who will be playing for
at least 20 different sports competition mostly individual events manned by 350
Technical Officials,” Atty. Alano said.
Atty Alano has mention
this year Archer gold medalist at the Youth Olympic Games Gabriel “Gabby” Moreno who was discovered in
Batang Pinoy on 2011 is now the idol and inspiration of the youths to become successful
athletes especially in the international competition.
Atty Alano also said that Batang Pinoy Qualifying Mindanao leg was
revived on 2011 spearheaded by the PSC together with the coordination from the Department
of Education (DepEd) and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the
Leagues of Provinces, Cities, Municipalities and Barangays. The National Sports Associations
Technical Officials will be the one responsible to run and oversee the
technical management of the event.
Atty Alano had
expressed her gratitude to the trust and support of the parents for sending their
children in Batang Pinoy sports competition.
For this year Batang Pinoy
qualifying Mindanao Leg, the PSC allocated more than P5 million budget with the
counter parting of sports venue and accommodation from the host province, Atty.
Alano said.
Provincial Information
Officer Marivic Jongco also said that the provinces and cities had confirmed
their participation for the said competition namely: Agusan del Sur, Basilan,
Bukidnon, Compostella Valley, North Cotabato, Davao del Norte, Lanao del Norte,
Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Sarangani, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del
Norte, Tawi-tawi, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, Davao City, Iligan
City, Valencia City, Ozamis City, Zambanga City, Dipolog City, City of Panabo,
Mati City, Koronadal, General Santos City, Kabadbaran, and Cagayan de Oro City.
The playing venues and
athletes quarters located in Zamboanga del Sur Government and Sports Center at
Barangay Dao this city are all well-prepared by the Provincial Government of
Zamboanga del Sur for all participants, she added.
The simultaneous opening
of Mindanao-wide Sports Competition and the kick-off celebration program of 62nd
Charter Day of this province will start with the parade around the major city
