Mass Surrender of Loose Firearms in Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay

ALICIA, Zamboanga Sibugay (May 9, 2018) - A mass surrender of assorted loose firearms held at the Municipal Plaza, Brgy. Poblacion, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Police Chief Inspector Rico B. Pondol, Officer-In-Charge Alicia MPS, initiated the mass surrender of firearms.

PSSUPT Nestor Y. Tiempo, Provincial Director of Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office, attended the activity together with PSUPT Cyrus C. Belarmino, Asst. Regional Chief/Provincial Officer, CIDG, Zamboanga Sibugay and the Commanding Officer of the Army’s 44th Infantry Battalion LTC Jonathan P. Obena (GSC), 1ID.

Alicia Municipal Mayor Yashier Musa and his Municipal Vice Mayor Remberto Sotto together with the Barangay Chairman of the twenty seven (27) barangays of the said municipality attended and supported the PNP and military program against the loose firearms.

There were a total of thirty-four (34) assorted firearms surrendered to the PNP during the said activity:
-twenty-nine (29) units of 12 Gauge Shotgun (Homemade);
-three (3) units of Caliber .45 pistols;
-one (1) unit M16 Rifle (Elisco); and
-one (1) unit  Garand Rifle..

Further, there were also five (5) firearms surrendered to 44th IB, PA and were also presented during the ceremony, as follows:
-Two (2) units M14 Rifles;
-Two (2) unit M16 Rifles; and
-One (1) unit M203 Rifle

During the ceremony, the participants were informed of the provisions of the law in possessing the firearms pursuant to RA 10591.

Likewise, urged the public that all those unlicensed and unregistered firearms must be surrendered either to the PNP or AFP to ensure the peace and tranquility in the community.

Meanwhile, an inventory was conducted to the loose firearms that were surrendered to the PNP were turnover to Provincial Logistics Branch, while the five (5) unit firearms surrendered to the AFP were returned back to the AFP for proper disposition.
