“As a result of the joint efforts of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-1 and the intelligence units, and the collaboration of the local government and other law enforcement agencies, the Abu Sayyaf members/ supporters surrender at the headquarters of the MBLT-1 in Barangay Seit Lake Poblacion, Panamao, Sulu,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
According to MBLT-1 Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Marvin Salvan, the Panamao-Makkin Salidin, 28 years old, married, a resident of Barangay Kan-Asaali and Seit Lake Poblacion, and an ASG member under Sansibar Bencio; Idjo Abduraja, 32, married, and a resident of Barangay Bangday; Haris Jul, 35 years old, married, and a resident of Barangay Kan-Asaali; and Raham Saddih, 37 years old, single, and also a resident of Kan-Asaali.
They handed over three M16 rifles, one M14 rifle, one cal. 45 pistol, and several magazines and ammunition.
Additionally, the six ASG supporters who surrendered one M1 Garand riddle were identified as Marissa Marajan, the wife of Sansibar Bencio, 35 years old, and a resident of Barangays Tandu-Tandu and Bangday; and the following residents of Barangay Kan-Asaali - Maybat Saliddin, mother of Sansibar Bencio, 60 years old, widow; Armilyn Abduraja, wife of ASG member Sikal Hussein, 20 years old; Arsalyn Abduraja, 17 years old, single; Parida Abduraja, 22 years old, single; and Mussah Abduraja Saddih, 28 years old, married.
The surrendered personalities underwent debriefing after which they were
brought to Panamao District Hospital for medical check-up.
4th Marine Brigade Commander Col. Hernanie Songano said the returnees will be turned over to their respective barangay local government units for proper disposition while the turned over firearms are placed under the custody of the 4MBde for documentation and safekeeping.
“I commend our marine troopers for this remarkable feat. Rest assured that we will continue to initiate peace mechanisms to convince the remaining ASG members to end their armed struggle without any single bloodshed,” said Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, Commander of the Joint Task Force Sulu.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. said the AFP sincerely welcomes those who wish to return to the fold of the law and avail of the livelihood programs of the government.
