The Truth Shall Prevail, The Truth Shall Set Us Free
PAGADIAN CITY (March 19,2018) - On March 15, 2018, the motion on bail
for the temporary release of Black. Carlo Morales of the Iglesia Filipino Independiente
is granted by Judge Edmundo Pintac of Ozamiz City Court ordered the granting of
bail in the amount of Php 200,000. This
came after the failure of the prosecutor's side to present evidence strong
enough to convict the good bishop.
Iglesia Filipina Independiente Mindanao Bishops Conference President Bp. Antonio Ablon told Mindanao Pagadian
Frontline that exactly after 309 days,
Bp. Carlo Morales, a shepherd of the Filipino faithful, a staunch human
rights and environment advocates, stands
as the longest church person to be unjustly and illegally detained in the
Philippines.
It will be remembered that the good bishop is facing a trumped up
following his arrest by the joint forces of 55 IB and PNP Provincial mobile
campany on May 11, 2017 at brgy. Gango, Ozamiz City, was charge on illegal
possession of explosives and, allegedly,
conspired with certain Rommel Salinas,
an NDFP consultant to the peace talks. Both were detained since May 11,
2017.
Bp. Ablon said the release of Bp. Morales affirms the truth behind the
false accusations and will pave way for the eventual and final release of Bp.
Carlo from any legal impediments in relation to the case. More importantly, the truth unmasks the futile attempt of the state to hamper the
church people's participation in spreading the good news of justice and peace
and quell any dissenting and critical views, he added.
This is very alarming as the Mindanao region remains under martial
law. The height of injustice is a heavy
toll among the ordinary people when basic rights and freedom are violated that
even church people aren't spared, he disclosed.
We continue to enjoin the community of faithful to stand strong and stay
firm when we are challenged to act justly,
to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God, Bp. Ablon said.(By Jong Cadion)
